Pros
Excellent range of benefits for middle management
Cons
promotion is problematic and process is drawn out
Advice to Senior Management
Listen and then act on the advice from staff
Pros
One of the best reasons to work for BT Conferencing in the US is their support for flex schedules, working from home, assistance in setting up a home office for remote workers, etc.
Cons
- Salaries are pretty low.
- Management doesn't always know what it is doing.
- Constant change in business strategy
- A lot of employees take undue advantage of the really flex schedules
Advice to Senior Management
Review the salaries please!!
Pros
fair pay package, flexible holiday entitlement, union support, sound training package and exceptional knowledge sharing platform for employees
Cons
poor leadership and management skills from management, very statistics oriented performance review, poor career development opportunities
Advice to Senior Management
management needs to review the leadership and motivation skills of its upper management and employ and 360 degrees feedback technique during appraisals
Pros
I learned a lot a BT. It was a good starting point in a career in IT. Everyone was also very easy to get a long with.
Cons
After some time working there they figured you've worked there long enough to know everything so from then on there was no help with any new projects that came up. They also gave people no time off because there was no one that could cover their time, so people would be mad at each other. Work was also non-stop from the second I walked into the door to about 30 mins after when I was supposed to have already left.
Advice to Senior Management
Go to upper management to tell them that people are very unhappy. Tell them that people are burnt out from dealing with a million things all at once.
Pros
Working for BT as a senior sales professional involved a lot of dedication and hard work the company paid well and offered advancement my last manager turned out to be the best over a 5 year period I saw a lot of staff and management come and go.
Visiting the clients and not being micro managed was the best part of the job hitting the targets made it all worthwhile however getting yout bonus paid out was another thing all together!!
Im glad I worked with BT it is a great thing to have on your resume ...........
If you want to work for a big corporate machine with full benefits then this is your oppertunity !
Cons
In the sales division getting your bonus/commission paid out on time or ever is the downside to working for BT if's and butts are candy nutts ...........
Advice to Senior Management
I have seen a lot of the senior management come and go, corporate business is fast paced, sometimes when change is for validation of your salary its all about YOU, YOU, YOU !
Pros
Great salary (700€/month), complete freedom to choose work-hours, but these must sum 25h/week.
Training is provided throughout the internship.
BT Graduate Program.
Cons
It is impossible to park the car where the buildings are located. Furthermore there are 2 buildings and constantly you have to move from one to another.
Years ago CCNA was paid and salary was 10% higher.
Advice to Senior Management
BT looks as if it were living from past successes. I'd say better innovate, grow and hire more people (currently they're not hiring anyone).
Pros
Friendly, supportive culture organized into smallish groupings.
Informed experts around every corner.
Huge Intranet full of information.
Modern offices: open plan, reasonable air conditioning and lighting.
Ongoing monitoring of Health & Safety: so good for optician tests, display screen setups, etc.
Some excellent catering facilities (depends on site)
Leading edge telecoms technology.
Modern HR approach - if you've just read about some new HR technique, they will already be using it.
Not that hierarchical once you get to middle management.
Salary is good for the type of job and sector.
Cons
Organization is not as flat as it could be, despite several attempts to flatten it.
Technical expertise is in lower management, not upper.
Senior management do not always communicate their strategic thinking very well.
Detailed performance management planning, recording, monitoring, etc. You agree with your manager what you will do, then you need do it better than you agreed in order to stay still.
Lots of mandatory testing at annual, biannual repetitions. Some for regulatory and legal reasons, but lots of repetitive internal testing - like annual virus awareness checks: "What is a virus? Is it [a]...[b]...[c]...?"
Slow response to change. But it is a large company.
Lots of middle managers who manage lots of other middle managers.
Tricky to create change.
Lots of management by email or Intranet. Quite a lot of remote management where you never meet your manager face-to-face.
Advice to Senior Management
Remove a few layers of middle management.
Ease off on the performance monitoring - for some people, it drives everything they do, and if it isn't on the plan, they do not do it.
Pull back on the mandatory training: amount and frequency. Familiarity breeds contempt.
A little bit more face-to-face management would work wonders.
Pros
There are a lot of very good individuals at BT. But that does not seem to translate in to the company as a while unfortunately.
Cons
BT has purchased several smaller US consulting and services companies in the last few years and has not done a good job integrating them. This means many processes are unique and not standardized within BT. Reinventing the wheel is something that happens on a routine basis at BT.
Advice to Senior Management
Align benefits among all the acquisitions and rest of BT. Employee morale is worsened by having everyone on a different benefits package, even if they do the same job.
Pros
Good benefits package offered, pension scheme and also days off when you want solong as you ask way in advance.
Cons
Wages arent the best. Have to work most public and bank holidays and especially over Christmas holiday season as well.
Advice to Senior Management
Take note of what employees are saying about job and pay conditions because if you listen to us then you might see that we have the future here now.
Pros
There are fantastic advancement opportunities within the company. In my experience they prefer to hire from within. Most levels of management are adept at recognizing talent.
Cons
While most managers are fair, I have come across some very incompetent managers while at the company. They need to do a better job of vetting those they promote. Very little organizational synergy.
Advice to Senior Management
Harmonize your goals - You hire from within which i believe is very fair, however you need to consider whether you need a team of people to do what one person could do.
