Pros
Opportunities, technology, freedom to work, IT resources, paperless cultrue, fantastic intranet. safe and stable
Cons
Salary progression. Pensions - career average sucks. stuck in our ways. slow to market. hard to improve salary when your in.
Advice to Senior Management
promote from within. value what you have and those that are true to BT. Stop the brain drain.
Pros
The culture is very friendly with focus on work life balance, working from home or flexi time is very common unless you are in operations role
The company is very diverse in terms of job roles and projects
Communication from senior management is often frequent and through many channels
Cons
Although generally good people, tends to be issues around professionalism and people not at the too of the skill set
There is a bit of a union mindset and majority of employees have worked at BT for 20+ years so there is a certain amount of tribalism in company
Advice to Senior Management
There is a lot of focus around quality of delivery which is great, but we often have head count challenges that make hitting these standards difficult
Pros
Family friendly. Some very good people [who sometimes don't hang around]. Decent work life balance. Industry-matching remuneration. Job movement is easier to new roles via a transition process. More global than competitors.
Cons
Still operates in its divisional silos. Senior management too accountant-heavy meaning the focus is on costs and not revenue. A fair number of middle managers managing upwards. Pockets of intense work can sit right next to under-performing teams. A lot of wasted energy on pet projects that don't eventuate. Overall package [ex remuneration] is not overly attractive.
Advice to Senior Management
Define the path the growth and follow it - even if it means we have to take more risks. Shorter planning horizons are a norm but don't sacrifice the longer term strategy.
Pros
The MBA team is a great, talented group - good networking within the team. Opportunity to work on a range of projects, develop expertise across a range of disciplines, and take on a senior management role.
Cons
Like many large companies, particularly in telco/media, size and process slow down an organization and make it harder to operate in an agile fashion.
Advice to Senior Management
Think about how things can be done faster and more efficiently. Test things out, fail fast, learn in the process.
Pros
Good employer, decent place to work. Interesting challenges on the job.
Cons
US operations very much detached from the UK operations. things move very slowly due to the size of the organization.
Advice to Senior Management
Have direct communication with employees.
Pros
Product force
Portfolio
Market and customers
Package compensation
Network size
Brand name
Cons
Managers mafia
Never critize anything
They think that have to win just because they are on the market
No position on movile
Not orientation to win money
Advice to Senior Management
Employees who try to improve and give feedback are bad seen. Managers are a group of power. Intermediate manager do not care about the company, they look for favours to interchange and survive
Pros
Work from home & colleagues
Cons
Headcuts on the sly, people just disappear. Everyone watching their back and wondering who's next.
Culture of backstabbing & politics.
Lack of focus on customer, internal issues are to the fore.
Lack of systems & processes. Excel used as a stopgap.
Lip service paid to work life balance, in reality you're worked to the bone.
Tight central control from UK - minimal autonomy in local country.
Highly burocratic and challenging to get anything done.
Avoid like the plague - BT treats its employees terribly.
Advice to Senior Management
Have a Plan, be transparent. Stop focussing on internal politics.
Pros
great benefits, great co-workers, nice facilities, decent pay, much flexibility. company car, perks, gift cards, rather close to the neighborhood, fiendly atmosphere, company picnics
Cons
no room for advancement, poor management decision making, no employee communication. team leaders know very little and sometimes a lot less than employees under them,
Advice to Senior Management
treat employees fairly if you want them to stay in the company. also give more perks to employees for them not to leave for better comapnies
Pros
There are flexible working hours. The work is interesting and the company is very supportive. Colleagues are friendly and the working environment is pleasant.
Cons
Salary could be better compared to some communications businesses. There isn't as much praise for good or excellent work as there could be.
Advice to Senior Management
The communication between the management and the rest of the work force isn't as comprehensive as it could be. Having said that, the management is extremely competent.
Pros
It is a big company.
Multi group you can work for.
real time system development
some projects related to gov
Cons
its too big, you may lose you self in bt.
some weird ppl.
some projects were really boring and no fun.
Advice to Senior Management
to fire some weird ppl.
to improve the salary
generally, the new employees are expecting to solve the problems themselves. no good idea.
