    Pros

Salary is paid bi-weekly on time.

    Cons

    1) No one ask you how many hours you need for the work you are going to do. The same with working time.
    2) My supervisor never come to see you and talk to you for the work progress but sitting in his confined office.
    3) Training? It will be Ok if it is free and on your own time. But list the training into the company training plan for employees.
    4) You are not invited for a kick-off meeting the work you are going to do in detail. Managers, supervisors and favorable persons are already filled the meeting room. You are not invited for a meeting because managers always have other more important things to discuss than your complete job results. You are done when your work done without mistakes. They will not screwed up the job if they are lucky. No one cares company money, time and young engineers.
    5) Always less jobs assign to you because you showed different opinions with your supervisors. The monthly project charge hours report never reflect the real truth.
    6) No more R&D, no new techniques. All depends on your own.
    7) Worse and worse health insurance.

    Advice to Management

Talk and listen to engineers supervised by you not only those managers above you.

  2. Good people, old school approach, declining industry

    Pros

Good people to work with. Challenging work. Intelligent engineers (for the most part).

    Cons

Old school approach. Little regard for employees. Declining industry. Old workforce (avg age ~50). Little or no plan for employee development. They ask for you to do more with fewer resources while simultaneously apprenticing with company veterans.

    Advice to Management

Invest in employee work-life balance, adopt newer (organic) corporate approach, treat employees better and they will stay and produce more.

    Pros

Close commute, modern office. Offers a decent amount of paid holidays. The good people make it nice but they don't last long.

    Cons

No job stability, frequent layoffs. Old fashioned business practices. The I.T. department is a joke, full of nasty people. Look elsewhere for employment if you want job security. Very top heavy, they use you, burn you out and lay you off.

    Advice to Management

Start caring for the long term success of your employees and realize people work in fear of getting let go.

    Pros

    1) Pay is above average. 2) A decent amount of paid holidays. 3) Nice modern offices.

    Cons

Micro-management practice with some engineers that cross over the professional line and are very arrogant. Project managers sell jobs for x amount of hours with a scheduled due date and then hand it off to an engineer in a manner in which they must "race" through calculations to meet the deadline. This practice is done by the project engineers to "bank as-sold hours" in order to increase the profits - which is very hard and unfair to any engineer.

Bottom line is, the company does not care for its' employees under the management level.

    Advice to Management

Modernize management practices from the 1950's to current-day practice.

    Pros

Company treats employees well with travel benefits, holidays, 401k matching, allowances, per deim, etc. It is a smaller company that isn't as bloated and bureaucratic as many. On the road the company allows 1 trip home per month. Expenses are always paid for. Overall the atmosphere is pretty good.

    Cons

Often times old fashioned. There are many 20+ year veterans at the company so innovation is often lacking. Only 2 weeks vacation, but there are lots of holidays. The majority of the company is made up of new englanders--self explanatory to those not from NE. Seems to be lots of dead weight around that should've been fired years ago.

    Advice to Management

Take notice more of outstanding employees and youngsters.
