    Cons

Recognition of structure, clear plan and strategy needed (we are working in it)

Reorganization of some who are in management positions whose skills would be better utilized in another capacity is needed

I have been working at Backbase

    Pros

You have the opportunity to work in a global atmosphere and you can see the potential of growth in the company. Very flexible hours as long as you get your work done.

    Cons

The management always changes directions and focus of the company once every five minutes. There is lack of communication with the rest of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to be more people-oriented. Have a focus and direction of the company and keep it and make sure to communicate this to the rest of the company.

I have been working at Backbase full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Dynamic company in a true multicultural and international environment. Great and always supportive team of colleagues. Fun stuff like Friday after work drinks, sailing the Backbase boat and yearly parties. Being part of a growing and succesful company is a great experience!

    Cons

A lot of pressure and high expectations. Of course usual for a growing company but some might experience this as stressful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share more information with the rest of the company, keep that family feeling alive.

I worked at Backbase full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The salary is at a very high level for Amsterdam standards. You get a lot of travel opportunities all over the world. The people are very nice, you make a lot of friends within the company. Effort is recognized and people acknowledge hard work and it is appreciated and returned. Small size also means that you know everyone by name. SEO can sell a fridge to an Eskimo. Expert Services manager at the time of this review is the best manager I ever had.

    Cons

The product needs a lot of work and causes frustration. The company is fast paced and you may switch projects a lot when working as a consultant. A lot of projects are undersold/underestimated which causes tight deadlines and more frustration. Projects are supposed to be developed using an agile methodology, but they are not in reality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take time to stabilize the project. Implement automated testing. Better estimations and managing customer expectations.

    Pros

If you are passionate about JavaScript and client-side development, Backbase will be a perfect place for you.

    - personal growth & good benefits
    - interesting and challenging projects
    - great professional colleagues
    - good atmosphere & working environment
    - company lunch & fitness

    Cons

I don't have any negative moments with my experience here. Company is very dynamic, but for me it more advantage, than disadvantage.

Demanding environment, ambitious company, opportunities to grow

    I worked at Backbase full-time

    Pros

    Product focuses on UX
    Ambitious company
    Great HR
Opportunities to grow (but you have to go for it yourself)

    Cons

    Very demanding work environment
    Misalignment affects product development
No effort to create alumni (you are good as long as you count as FTE, when you leave, bridges are burned)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

See the value in people and not in resources
Careful not to nurture back-stubbing culture

I have been working at Backbase full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The projects allow you to be involved with large projects of interesting clients. Opportunity to travel and to work with the customers' teams. Experience with new and modern frameworks.

    Cons

The product is very buggy, and so much time is spent on troubleshooting. You are taken from one project to another very quickly, jumping to the mess that was left by the person who worked on it before, because he had no time. The upper management itself has no clear vision and do not listen to the warnings and requests of the employees; it is focused on revenue and isn't focused on core problems, such as product quality and employees development. They give big promises to clients which can be hardly kept after letting the employees sweat a lot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Face core problems and do not sweep them under the table. There was an employee survey done by HR but no serious action was taken by the management to improve.

I worked at Backbase full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

International atmosphere. Young team. Many opportunities to expand knowledge. Decent benefits. Potentially nice product line. Challenging environment.

    Cons

Activities in the consulting department mean slinging crap at customers and then cleaning up the mess. Product with no clear vision and no attention to real customer needs. Product management is nearly absent and focuses only on short term needs. Upper management treats employees identical to the customers: fail to deliver on promises and just keep lying until they're bled dry. This leads to a huge knowledge and a long line of angry customers. Only positive information on the net you can find about this company is from their own website. The fact that staff reviews here mention they "do not want to share" the cons should be a red flag too.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on keeping your customers and employees onboard. Hire real product managers. The tide can be turned but only with real guidance and focus. Get rid of the bad apples in management because they'll kill the company.

I have been working at Backbase full-time for more than a year

    Pros

It's an exciting product to be working on, and it's great to be challenging the 'big players' in such a competitive field. The atmosphere and energy is very open and welcoming, colleagues are all more than happy to share their knowledge and listen in turn. People are genuinely interested in and passionate about what they're doing - it's refreshing.

    Cons

The usual growing pains associated with a company that strives to innovate and remain relevant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the communication flowing openly between departments so that everyone's aware of the product scope and vision.

I have been working at Backbase full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company values are strong and empowering. It's a very flexible company that really allows you to balance your work and personal life. In Backbase there are often social activities (Friday drinks and parties) and the international environment allows you to meet people from more than 27 different nationalities. The work is very challenging and that makes it fun. Opportunities to travel and grow.

    Cons

When I started more than 1 year ago, I wish I had more training to understand better the products.
Like in any team work, there's some people that really work hard but there are some others that don't do anything and no one does anything about it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should be leaders and not authorities. The CEO empowers people while other senior managers are just nice but lack of a common goal or energy that seems to make them stay away from trouble.
