I have been working at Bain & Company full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This company really works hard to make its employees feel that they are apart of a greater whole, like a giant international family. The employees here work hard and also play hard.

    Cons

Due to the fact that the company is rapidly growing, the idea of a familiar, inclusive workforce can be forgotten at times. The company also struggles to find a way to make its admin staff feel as included and driven as the rest of the consultant employee body.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a system that motivates the admin staff

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Amazing people work at Bain. Smart, dedicated and humble coworkers make going in to the office everyday a joy.

    Cons

Professional services does not create for a sustainable lifestyle and despite all its attempts, Bain doesn't do a good job balancing the load for individuals, particularly the best employees. The joke of "hiring insecure perfectionists" is somewhat true and exploited. Bain burns out the best and relies on the culture to keep people around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior leadership needs to do a better job of connecting with the concerns of the younger generation and not falling back on the "Back in my day i paid my dues" attitude that can sometimes come through. The best talent today isn't just looking to work hard with blinders on until they reach the big payday.

I worked at Bain & Company

    Pros

Great people and great training. You learn a lot very quickly and gain access to many industries and functions. Great job for those are new to business / management and don't know where they want to specialize.

    Cons

Hours are long and arduous with high stress. Culture can be disheartening at times, and varies across offices (the west (e.g. SF) has the best culture (most supportive and constructive)...the culture in Europe & NYC can be more cut throat).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think carefully about staffing. Make sure all employees are given access to good mentors early in their case experience.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Learn a ton, work on clients' most important problems, gain the 'consultant toolkit', awesome exit opportunities no matter what you want to do, great people who care a ton about helping you succeed

    Cons

Work can become very process oriented and feel less impactful at times. Sometimes too little effort is put into fully understanding industry and company context. Culture can be a little overbearing (e.g. pressure to have all three meals together every day).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve industry expertise so that teams can have better understanding of the client's industry on day 1 and throughout case
