I have been working at Baker Hughes full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Great Pay
    Decent Benefits (But dropping fast)

    Cons

    Buddy buddy system
    Poor communication
Employees left in the dark even lower managers
    Failure to engage employees
    Extremely baised
If your not in the 'In Crowd" don't look for any real promotions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior Management needs to get Baker back to it's roots and at the same time move forward with progress. To many backward thinkers taking the company down. In 10 years I have seen this company slide backwards in all aspects including safety.
Get rid of this useless Human Resources group. If you file a complaint it is turned against you and you are persicuted by everyone including your managers. Baker has a broken system in several of these smaller plants and there is no over sight.
Extreme amounts of under the table dealings going on with vendors without any managers doing anything to stop it after being notified multiple times.

I worked at Baker Hughes full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Easy to move up in the company with no experience in management! They hire whoever!

    Cons

No support from HR and lacking management and coaching, HSE culture, ability to work as a team is very poor!!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to get off there butts and see what's really going on in these districts! I dedicated my time from clock in to clock out! I spent hours trying to make the team better and most importantly, make the company better! With my knowledge and experience I brought to the table, the management did not support me because they thought I wanted "their" job! Every little mistake that was made, HR was called instead of them talking and walking me through my mistake! As well as coaching! That's what I wanted is to work as a team!!! The evaluations are poor and need to be looked into. HR and HSE structure needs to be looked into! HR is to support employee and management, but not favor management because there buddy!!!

I have been working at Baker Hughes full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great training, great benefits, great people on the ground. Good first step to getting into the oilfield, and possibly a long career with the same company. GOM has some quality people working in it, managers attempt to uphold a schedule for field hands that many other districts do not get.

    Cons

Very middle/top heavy. Seems like a new position is added every week, and no extra support is needed in some of those departments. People making decisions that affect the "core" workers where they have no first hand experience or care to ask for input and results are sometimes detrimental to the operations carried out or loss of good quality hands.

I have been working at Baker Hughes full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good pay, benefits, and stable work environment. They usually won't fire people when things close. They will move you to another region and foot most the bill depending on your title.

    Cons

Usually local managers don't care about the workers and will work you into the ground. Travel all the time for extended periods of time. Work long hours 12-20 per day depending.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow your educated workers to advance as they see fit and allow them to pursue their own path without restrictions.

I have been working at Baker Hughes full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great benefits, laid back atmosphere. you can make a lot of money. Co-workers have been very helpful. Very safe environment, up to date equipment and tools. All clothing and boots provided, so minimal out of pocket expense to start.

    Cons

Long hours sometimes, but with overtime pay it where you make the money. lack of direction sometimes, when I started my manager went on vacation, so this probably is an isolated case. sometimes jobs run into your days off which is a bummer.

    Pros

Manager very approachable, great team work, good support system. Good work Life balance in my department. I miss being there.

    Cons

A bit political sometimes..Alot of the "O&G Good ole Boys" still around. Profits shared among management so the first year no bonus from Grade 10 and lower.
