Uncertainty with the upcoming Halliburton merger.

    Advice to Management

Don't let good talent slip away during the difficult transition months ahead.

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Good work culture.

    Cons

From a Accountant perspective, Baker Hughes is becoming highly standardized and centralized which is the direction a large company must go these days. This results in a narrow variety of tasks to be completed for a large portion of the organization which makes for a more boring work environment. Very limited promotion opportunities. Due to the highly specialized task environment I would not recommend for an ambitious entry level accountant that wants a solid accounting base. It's becoming a very clerical environment.

    Pros

    Great company enjoyed my time.

    Cons

HR determines who gets reduced. Management does not always support effort to grow.

    Pros

The people at Baker are awesome, the management is very supportive and it is a very friendly, welcoming culture. Integrity, teamwork, and taking care of each other are a priority.

    Cons

Could use a little more discipline. Pending acquisition by Halliburtton could change everything.

    Advice to Management

Keep your focus on the people, especially in this current difficult market environment. Be aware of morale drains.

    Pros

Acceptable benefits, lots of paid days off, flexible work schedule when you need it, your local managers/supervisors had a good handle on employee needs.

    Cons

-% career advancement opportunities unless you were willing to move to Houston. Most of the decision makers are located in Houston TX and don't allow for discussion or constructive criticism of plans. There is also a lack of support for simple things such as pen and paper making you have to beg borrow or figuratively steal to get such basic supplies (it once took me 6 months to get notebook paper, and then they sent me 12 pads at once). Hopefully if the Halliburton deal goes through whatever survives of Baker Hughes will be able to support employees in a shorter time frame.

    Advice to Management

Make meetings more centered on collaborative decision making and save information that can be passed in an email for an email. If we don't have a say in the decision and you want us to know about possible changes, there's no need for a big team meeting. We could all read the last time I checked.
