    Pros

    Excellent work environment and co-workers.
Challenging problems that gave me a great deal of expertise in solving unique issues.
    Excellent compensation package.
    Knowledgeable engineering staff and managers.

    Cons

Dysfunctional operations management that asks for input, but cannot change their mind once it is made up, this has led to talent flight and some organizational brain drain.
    Overworked Human Resources department.
Poor inter-product line communications and cooperation.

    Advice to Management

Treat people like their adults, not children to be scolded or belittle. Provide more training as it is very good, but numerous people do not get to go when the workload is heavy and no gets to go when there is no work. Humanize the HR department they are seen as busy bodies who only make trouble, when they should be problem solvers. All managers need specific manager training and this would cut down on HR issues greatly.

    Pros

Baker Hughes people are good and will help when asked. Most IT people work pretty autonomously. Compensation and benefits are good and include a pension and a 401k. During my tenure, there was a bonus program that was VERY good when the company met its goals.

    Cons

Regular layoffs can be frustrating, as it is very up and down and not all based on price of oil. Regular IT re-organizations mean some people are never truly held responsible for their deliverables - they just move on. Remaining people are overloaded and expected to work longer hours. For all the talk about "people are Baker's most valuable resource", it does not come across.

Recent IT layoffs got rid of knowledgeable people, leaving newbies in charge. Not good for the business.

The Bonus will probably go away once the Halliburton acquisition is complete.

    Advice to Management

ALL Managers must walk the walk about people being important. Top Leaders seem to, but the trickle down is not seen in IT, unless you are favored.

    Pros

Working at the Houston HTC plant is ok in the mfg area. You mostly just come in and do what needs to be done w/o being micro managed. BHI has good benefits and probably better than many other companies. Pay is good, but probably a tad lower than similar companies.

    Cons

Mangers are hesitant to promote assemblers, mechanical techs, elect techs, and supervisors. There isn't much done to promote upward mobility from mfg, unless you are at the managers level.

    Pros

They truly believe in their values and mission. Decent pay for hard work. I've always enjoyed working here because they treat you right and respect your ideas.

    Cons

Up and downs of the oil market can be worrisome to those seeking more stability than good pay. Also, when the oil patch is going strong, there is a tendency for overworking you because of not enough people to do the jobs needing to be done.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, we are heading in the right direction. Keep focus on getting the work-life balance correct.

    Pros

Good pay and training. Hard to have a healthy personal life without being allowed to work off of a schedule. Benefits are great and compensation is more then fair. Hardest part about the job was training unqualified people to fill important rolls at the job site.

    Cons

Family environment, if your not related to someone or have close friendship ties with management promotions seem harder to get.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the ole buddy system and maintain quality employees.
