I have been working at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause full-time for less than a year

    Pros

They are really flexible time wise, as long as all the work is done. Management is friendly, fun, and inspiring. There is a learning and team atmosphere. BTVK or Baker Tilly is the best company I have ever worked for.

    Cons

Baker Tilly is located downtown Minneapolis and parking is not paid for at my position level. The office interior could be a little bit more open. I would also like a microwave on my floor.

I have been working at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great people, perks, and benefits. As a female leader I feel well supported and there are many opportunities to be involved in the community as a professional and volunteer. They provide flexibility for better work/life balance than I've seen elsewhere. In addition, being mid-sized they are not only open to improvements but truly operate in an agile way to act on suggestions.

    Cons

Still working on some of the technology to support the growth of the firm, but at least they are actively improving.

I have been working at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause full-time

    Pros

    -nice office downtown
    -some quality coworkers
    -6 weeks paid maternity leave
    -good health insurance

    Cons

-some of the industry groups have a toxic culture
    -turnover really high
-one big blame game not a teaching/learning environment
-no clear path to promotion, just a popularity contest
-they claim they have flexible work arrangements but they are really for managers and up and if you are below them you have to kill yourself to get their stuff done so they can work part time
-some of the partnerd and managers are micromanagers (especially on the tax side)
-because industry groups have their own financials and budgets work get hoarded and there is not a well rounded experience

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Merge tax to one team so work gets shared and some of the negative toxic personalities and more diluted with more healthy individuals. Quick talking about "Best Place to Work" survey results and make it a great place to work!

I have been working at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The employees are smart, and there are opportunities to work on a variety of projects. It is also easy to take on lots of responsibility early in one's career. Since employees work many hours especially during busy seasson, employees are rewarded with meals and other perks.

    Cons

Employees work long hours during the traditional busy season of a public accounting firm. They pay is also probably not at the same level as some of the big 4 accounting firms.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give the new staff as much responsibility as possible early in their careers to keep them interested and involved.

I have been working at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause

    Pros

    - Very nice office.
    - Many smart, good people to work with.
    - Opportunity to lead engagements early in career.
    - Opportunity to conduct audit from planning to wrap-up as staff.
    - Much of the work is challenging.

    Cons

    - Poor Leadership. Many Partners are dishonest and misleading.
    - Poor work/life balance with excessive travel.
    - Low employee morale, many people frustrated with leadership.
    - Company rarely promotes from within. They heavily recruit people from Big 4.
    - Not a fun place to work. No team building events. Bad place for young people to work.
    - Very clicky, and nepotism dominates. If you don't align yourself with the right people, you won't get ahead here.
    - It is difficult to be successful if you get put on projects that were underbid and that are impossible to achieve realization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Leadership needs to stop lying to employees.
    - Have better office-wide communication and employee review process.
    - Eliminate industry teams.
    - Needs new energy at Partner-Level.
