Pros
- Partners are really great to work with. They are understanding and listen to you.
- There are many opportunities to grow and succeed here.
- You are a part of the culture and have the ability to voice your opinions and concerns.
- Valued member of the team
- Lots of flexibility even during busy season. Definitely get more flexibility the longer you are here
Cons
- Its public accounting so the hours can be long and demanding at times.
- There is a lot of responsibility early on so if you can’t deal with that then maybe not a good fit.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work and continue to reward your people as they are the foundation for the company.
Pros
Very good atmosphere. Everyone from the ground up is approachable. CEO and managing partner both can be approached without an appointment, and they even know everyones name that makes an effort.
Cons
They expect you to work like an accountant
Pros
The firm treats everyone down to the entry level staff consultant like a mature professional, and this respect translates into very satisfied and empowered employees. There is a great opportunity at BT to work for a professional service firm with Big Four experience throughout, while operating as a smaller firm, which translates into greater independence, autonomy and responsibility for younger staff.
Cons
Learning curve is high. Senior leaders do expect new staff to be self starters and ask for responsibility, but most of the people here thrive in that type of environment and want to be challenged and grow rapidly in their career.
Pros
Working at Baker Tilly means working with smart, talented people. The atmosphere is a work hard, play hard attitude and the company is committed to work life balance. Opportunities exist for flexible work arrangements, telecommuting, etc.
Cons
In the end, this is a client service business which means that the client's needs come first. And sometimes the timing of those requirements means long hours.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to focus on the development of your people and continue to communicate the strategic growth plans of the company.
Pros
Opportunities exist throughout the organization for those with the drive to 'choose their own destiny', the company is continuously looking for leaders who can move to the next level and support the pace at which the company is growing.
Cons
Smaller but growing company, so minor adjustments and changes as key processes continue to be solidified
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to communicate to the teams
Pros
Baker Tilly offers the resources of a national firm and opportunities for accelerated growth and opportunity of a regional firm. Management listens and adapts to feedback we give them. My supervisors are all genuinely interested in my development and they help me seek new opportunities.
Cons
As with other public accounting firms, long hours are required during tax season and other various busy seasons throughout the year. The firm does a great job of balancing out the rest of the year with different types of projects and activities.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep listening to your people.
Pros
-Work directly with Partners
-BT does have some "experts" within their niche markets
-During busy season, management will pay for lunch on the weekends.
Cons
-Communication from top level management is lacking
-Company underbids engagements just to get the work
-Common recurring theme, we don't have enough work but bill anyway
-BT claims they are experts in an area and then scrambles to put together a team to work on an engagement
-Company lacks the ability to keep and recruit top talent
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to understand that they are not a top 5 accounting firm and therefore can't compete with the big boys.
Pros
The enviornment is very collaborative and flexible. I am regularly asked for my input, allowed to make decisions and try new things. I also feel that the partners truly care about my success.
Cons
Because of the matrix organization and level of collaboration, it can take longer to make decisions than I would like.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to care about and focus on people and their development. It is what makes this firm different from other public accounting firms.
Pros
They understand a work life balance.
They have a fair pay scale.
Competitive Benefits
Base level staff are very nice
Cons
Senior Management and Partners are out of touch.
Poor communication throughout the company.
Not much concern on keeping talented staff on board.
Advice to Senior Management
In the past 2 years we have lost 50% of our offices employees. Many people start out at our office and leave after 1-2 years. Senior management and Partners are very tough on employees, and many people feel like they are walking on eggshells.
Pros
Management works hard, motivating you to work hard
Goals are clearly discussed and the support is given in order to reach those goals
Great work/life balance - time off when needed
Management genuinely cares about you
Cons
Segregated groups within the company
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to show interest in staff level employees and their success.
Continue to keep an open - door policy
