    Pros

Great company, efficient business analyst leading the project and the project managers were very efficient in handling delicate customer expectations. In my case I found my manager to be very easy to work with and yet he maintained a very high level of professionalism.

    Cons

Having only been contact employed for about 4 months before the project was internalized, I cannot accurately comment on the cons of working for Baker Tilly on a broader scale.

    Advice to Management

Your business analysts/project managers are very effectively, but project delivery might be improved with additional low-level software development skilled personnel.

  2. Consulting is a great way to pay bills while in between permanent positions, and Baker Tilly pays a fair wage.

    Pros

My boss was able to keep me working for three years straight. I always earned enough to pay my obligations, even if it meant that he took a hit sometimes on his margin. The clients varied as far as how good of places they were to work, but the Baker Tilly team was supportive throughout.

    Cons

There is no compensation when you are in between contracts. Also, sick time was the only benefit offered, until health insurance was added recently. However, my boss did allow me to use sick time to cover most of the unpaid holidays.

    Advice to Management

Follow the lead of some of your competition and start offering a full line of benefits to your consultants.

    Pros

The tone at the top of this firm is very good. The firm's top leadership has created a culture of trust and teamwork where partners and employees feel both respected and appreciated and thus strive to reach their full potential.

We are pleased that our office is now part of this firm.

    Cons

We are still working through the necessary merger integration issues. Some staff are sad that we couldn't just adopt all of the new policies and procedures on the first day of the merger. Everyone is looking forward to the future.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work!

    Pros

Company is growing strong, providing advancement opportunities and enjoyable challenges. You are recognized for your work and the benefits and pay are good. Company tends to be very flexible in terms of work/life balance, however I'm not an accountant so it may be different from IT. Lots of office events and perks that help make staff feel welcomed.

    Cons

Not very many. If you are outside of the Madison or a few other key offices it can sometimes be difficult to get access to more interesting and rewarding IT projects. However, with the company changing so quickly there are plenty to do and opportunities abound.

    Advice to Management

Improve interdepartmental communication. Try to improve standards so all offices work together. Be more careful when 'setting the course' as it seems many projects get put on hold with no warning and direction changes quickly, sometimes leaving employees confused and frustrated.

    Pros

    Flexibility when needed
Can transition to different offices or industries

    Cons

Midwest operations and offices are slow as snails
    No communication from management
Money that could be spent on higher salaries or bonuses is being wasted every day on more and more human resources, marketing and IT team members
How many learning and development staff are needed at an accounting firm?
    Too many levels of hierarchy
Most of management lacks a back bone and act in fear each day
Work is not delegated equally across the firm
Too many buzz words that make employees throw up
