Pros
Great bonuses.
Attorneys are nice and treat staff with respect.
Shows staff appreciation through staff appreciation week.
Firm had a family dynamic.
Cons
Okay raises.
Shows favoritism at times.
benefits aren't on par with competitors.
Work/life balance could be improved.
Secretaries to attorney ratios are sometimes out of balance.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more consistent. Raise your benefit to be on same level as peers.
Pros
Vacation and Benefits. Attorneys are great.
Cons
No chance for advancement for paralegals with more than a 4 year degree
Pros
The attorneys I work for are bright, intelligent and very good at what they do.
Cons
There is NO teamwork and the staff are treated like children. They sell you on what a family oriented organization they are and then completely punish you for having a family.
Pros
Used to be a good place to work.
Cons
Too big
Not nice to non-attorney staff
Advice to Senior Management
Be nicer to your staff
Pros
They care about people almost to a flaw.
Cons
Lawyers can be extremely demanding without necessarily the best interest of the firm at heart.
Advice to Senior Management
Run the business side of the firm like a business so the legal side can focus on legal services...
Pros
Benefits are excellent! They reward good, steady work. There are well trained support staff to assist when needed. There is definitely a team spirit among secretaries and attorneys. It's a big firm with lots of nice people who work there. I believe the compensation is very generous.
Cons
No flex time. Baker uses Kronos to make sure all staff are in on time, only take an hour lunch and don't leave a minute early. I really think this is the only downside, but after all, there are a lot of people to keep track of and they are generous with paid time off.
Advice to Senior Management
The only suggestion would be that when a big snow storm hits that closes most businesses and it is in the forecast for the next day, to go ahead and close the office instead of expecting employees to leave way early to make it to work on time in a terrible snow storm.
