    Typical warehouse

I have been working at Baker & Taylor full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Incentives are really good if you work for it. You work independently and plenty of work.

    Cons

Of course being a warehouse, no AC and hot summers. I wish there were fans for each station and not as hot of lights during the night.

I worked at Baker & Taylor full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Easy to get in, above min wage

    Cons

no notice overtime one day, then sent home early the next. Very repetitive, secluded with no social interaction most of the day. If your not on the supervisors good side, be ready to be bullied and crying. It seems like A LOT of people come and go from this company. There's a reason why. 6-2:30 was too early for me, but CLS is only on that shift.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look into your supervisors/workers. Ask opinions. Happy workers make happy customers which make money.

I worked at Baker & Taylor full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You can make an okay wage for this day and age and there is an incentive program. Most of the management team is fun.

    Cons

Company isn't as stable as it used to be due to the poor economy and the advances of digital technology. Most of management has been there for many years and has their favorite people. Not a whole lot of room for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be fair. Smile. Most of all, be fair.

I worked at Baker & Taylor full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

I can't think of any, I was looking for a new job within two weeks of starting there and glad I got out!

    Cons

Where do I start, filthy office, broken desk furniture and the favoritism I saw between a director and a direct report/manager was unbelievable it was like watching a master and his puppy dog!

I worked in technology and any suggestions on improvement are met with a resounding NO simply because my manager (the puppy dog) and his boss didn't understand the technology, plus how could you challenge what they did in the past?

I was a full time salaried employee however I felt I was treated like an hourly employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dump all the middle managers and directors, *maybe* that'll help you get things straightened out but I doubt it.

My peers and managers were afraid to voice their opinions and ideas even if the department direction was a failing one.

I worked at Baker & Taylor full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you like overtime, they have their fair share. Book and video discounts. Good bonus for good work.

    Cons

Overtime is mandatory and without notice. You have to keep records of your work to fight for your bonus. They have a manager who screams in your face and no one stops her. No union to help you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire her if you don't know who she is just ask. I have been away for over 2 years and she is still sending employees home in tears. Most employees will take overtime if offered, unless they have no sitter ready or a wedding to go to. So, make it a request first.
