A part time JOKE!

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Jacksonville, FL

I worked at Bakers Footwear part-time for less than a year

Pros50% discount on all regular priced items
30% discount on all sale items

ConsTERRIBLE HOURS
Commission rate is ridiculous
Manager and assistant managers are the only people making decent money!
Shifts are only 3 to 4 hours for part timers
The most amount of shifts you can expect to get in a week is 2
Sometimes not scheduled at all resulting in no paycheck
On call shifts never go through
Manager is phony!

Advice to Senior ManagementThe management NEEDS to be organized and not constantly forgetting to send out the schedule every week. Also stop stringing your employees along! Instead of giving them horrible hours until they quit be upfront and tell them what they are doing wrong so they can correct their mistakes! Or stop being a coward and fire them!

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Ok for a teenager in high school

Sales Associate (Current Employee)
Saint Louis, MO

I have been working at Bakers Footwear part-time for more than a year

Pros50% off discount.
Good people
They like to hire within

ConsNot enough hours
Not enough pay because of the hours
Three hour shifts sometimes four

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more people who actually want to work. Also give more hours because we don't make enough money whatsoever. If people are sick or have something urgent and life threatening let them take off!!! And give breaks.

Fantastic experience and the best job I ever had.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Los Angeles, CA

I worked at Bakers Footwear

ProsHighest senior management (CEO and especially the VPS) were incredible people to work for. Peter Edison (CEO) is a true example of leadership and inspiration. Company overall is very family oriented and valued work/life balance for the most part. Corporate office is full of amazing people who are easy to work with and really are there to help those in the field.

ConsDirect supervisor was challenging to work for. This was not the norm for the company, rather the exception.

Advice to Senior ManagementAll levels of senior management should treat everyone, right down to the seasonal part timer and stock person with respect and dignity. Certain behaviors and treatment of others by certain higher level managers should not be over looked because of personal relationships. Listen to your main work force, the regionals, the store managers and part timers to get a pulse on morale.

terrible company - worst ever

WORST PLACE EVER - DONT WORK THERE I SWEAR!!! (Current Employee)
Saint Louis, MO

I have been working at Bakers Footwear

Pros50% off regular price or 30% off shoes on sale, whichever makes it cheaper

ConsManagers are awful and dont know anything. They always tell you you're going to be fired. Part time salespeople only get 3 hour shifts. not worth the time you spend getting ready and driving to and from work. Worst place to work ... ever. I was unhappy and dreaded going in.

Advice to Senior ManagementFile for bankruptcy ... again . You promise everyone will make commission when your stores have horrible sales! my store was fighting every week just to make the same amount that was my weekly sales goal

Best company I have ever worked for. I have been in retail 9 years, seen my share! This company is amazing and cares!

Assistant Manager (Former Employee)
Overland Park, KS

I worked at Bakers Footwear

Proscompetitive pay
great upper management
very diverse staff
fun, loud, exciting workplace
fashion forward/fun dresscode
BEAUTIFUL product you can believe in!
and of course a generous discount off the retail price

Consbiggest weakness for company: regional managers getting too busy and not returning phone calls, and forgetting to answer important questions/following through.

Advice to Senior ManagementReturn calls as soon as you can. It is hard not to feel like youve been swept under the rug sometimes. I understand..YOU ARE BUSY, SO ARE WE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Earn Comis$ion working at Bakers? 5% Comission OR $8.00/hr. NOT BOTH!

Sales Associate (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at Bakers Footwear

Pros50% discount on all shoes including "branded" (items other than Bakers own brand) -sale items you get for 30% off OR 50% off original price, whichever is more.

You decide how much you earn basically. If your total comission for the week does not equal more than $8.00/hr then they round you up but thats it.

ConsMust work at a fast pace all time-have to hustle to make money! Many tourists and people in the store who take a long time and can be difficulet to understand.
No benefits for part time employees and you don't ever get more than 20 hrs per week at the most.
Bi-weekly pay but there are two pay periods in one check so you can commission one week and not the next...in the same paycheck.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement gets great benefits...you can see everything listed in the employee handbook and they do hire from within the company. Management throws you right into the job with barely any training. Most retail jobs I have had give extensive training or at the very least one or two work days. Bakers gave me the tour and when a customer interrupted my "training" looking for a shoe the manager just walked away and that was the end of it :) But overall everyone is soo friendly. I enjoy my job.

Field Position

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Bakers Footwear

ProsGreat discount and the pay isn't too terrible. Being a store manage is an excellent way to build a resume.

ConsYou are required to work 45+ hours a week and if you go overtime you are not paid for your time. You also may not take two days off in a row, and you don't earn any vacation time until you have been with the company for six months.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more flexible with time off and allow your managers to work a normal 40 hour work week. Also the way the management tier works is very unfair.
