    Pros

Great oppoutunity to meet people, network, become great in sales.

    Cons

When business was slow, money was low. Corporate and buyers were late on trends and bought some pretty tacky merchandise at times

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're gone now, should've listened to the people actually working in your store on the daily basis.

I worked at Bakers Footwear full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The discounts are amazing! Fun environment and tremendous growth opportunity! Its hard work, but it motivates you to do better!

    Cons

The hours can be very demanding and it can be hard to balance. Every region is different, there's no consistency, and the buyers should be more involved in the store and finding out what works for that demographic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show more recognition consistently rather than annually like company functions, achievement awards, bonuses, or even pay raises.

I worked at Bakers Footwear part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

50% discount on all regular priced items
30% discount on all sale items

    Cons

    TERRIBLE HOURS
    Commission rate is ridiculous
Manager and assistant managers are the only people making decent money!
Shifts are only 3 to 4 hours for part timers
The most amount of shifts you can expect to get in a week is 2
Sometimes not scheduled at all resulting in no paycheck
On call shifts never go through
    Manager is phony!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management NEEDS to be organized and not constantly forgetting to send out the schedule every week. Also stop stringing your employees along! Instead of giving them horrible hours until they quit be upfront and tell them what they are doing wrong so they can correct their mistakes! Or stop being a coward and fire them!

    Pros

    50% off discount.
    Good people
    They like to hire within

    Cons

    Not enough hours
Not enough pay because of the hours
    Three hour shifts sometimes four

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people who actually want to work. Also give more hours because we don't make enough money whatsoever. If people are sick or have something urgent and life threatening let them take off!!! And give breaks.

    I worked at Bakers Footwear

    Pros

Highest senior management (CEO and especially the VPS) were incredible people to work for. Peter Edison (CEO) is a true example of leadership and inspiration. Company overall is very family oriented and valued work/life balance for the most part. Corporate office is full of amazing people who are easy to work with and really are there to help those in the field.

    Cons

Direct supervisor was challenging to work for. This was not the norm for the company, rather the exception.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All levels of senior management should treat everyone, right down to the seasonal part timer and stock person with respect and dignity. Certain behaviors and treatment of others by certain higher level managers should not be over looked because of personal relationships. Listen to your main work force, the regionals, the store managers and part timers to get a pulse on morale.

Teaches each associate the selling process
    Great employee discount

Like any commission based jobs, there can be a great difference in paychecks from week to week
Sometimes feel pushed by managers to oversell to keep up store UPT

Current Employee - WORST PLACE EVER - DONT WORK THERE I SWEAR!!! in Saint Louis, MO

I have been working at Bakers Footwear

    Pros

50% off regular price or 30% off shoes on sale, whichever makes it cheaper

    Cons

Managers are awful and dont know anything. They always tell you you're going to be fired. Part time salespeople only get 3 hour shifts. not worth the time you spend getting ready and driving to and from work. Worst place to work ... ever. I was unhappy and dreaded going in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

File for bankruptcy ... again . You promise everyone will make commission when your stores have horrible sales! my store was fighting every week just to make the same amount that was my weekly sales goal
