Pros
Salaries and benefits are very good and are generally maintained just above the market median.
Internal communications are also an area of focus therefore you are always kept up to date on internal initiatives, successes and changes in company structure.
BBR is continually addressing its safety record and looking for improvements. One of the most proactive companies I have worked for in this field.
If it is a staff position that is of interest, be prepared to commit to over 40 hours per week, particularly if you are assigned to specific projects.
There is a high emphasis on training at all levels with a structured training programme that looks good on the CV!
Cons
1. Internal initiatives are numerous to the extent that they occupy significant resource input drawing attention away from its core business of designing and building rail infrastructure.
2. The company is divided into three divisions with responsibility for domestic markets in the UK, Germany & Italy. Coordination between the three appears nominal at best and the cause of much internal friction.
3. Promotions to key positions are considered with political correctness as well as capability and experience.
Advice to Senior Management
Coordination is required to determine which internal initiatives are priority
Stronger management of the three internal divisions
Avoidance of appointing management positions for political correctness over ability.
