    Cons

the atmosphere is very lax and laid back, would not be a good first job because it spoils a persons perspective on work ethic.

    Pros

    The relationships with coworkers

    Cons

Horrible leadership, they change CEO's every year it seems like, the people running the company are a complete joke(west coast).Commissions change every month, corporate is out of touch.Members can't cancel their memberships.Shady business practices, they are selling all the clubs, this company is not going to exist much longer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sell the company to someone that actually cares about the employees and doing things the right way.stop screwing your members over, stop putting people in leadership positions and shouldn't be.This company is so corrupt and all you corporate clowns should be ashamed of yourselves.Do you guys bother to look at your yelp reviews?

    Pros

Great company to work for. They are starting to make a comeback since LA Fitness purchased a large part of the company a few years back.

    Cons

Like any job in the fitness industry, the hours are long. This is a performance paying position, in order to make money you need to understand the commission structure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers are doing their best to rebuild the company. Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Bally Total Fitness full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent environment to hone and develop sales and people skills. Fitness environments are always full of happy and energetic people and this is no exception.

    Cons

Each club runs fairly independently almost as its own ecosystem but General Managers have to contend with corporate leadership that changes company directions on a whim. Much like Orwell's "1984", you are told to embrace the new line of thought every few months and act like former directives never existed. Also, due to its past bankruptcies, job stability for management is low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In my time as a General Manager, I met three of the CEOs, each with a different vision and direction and one, in particular, who outright lied to the company about its direction. No wonder they have 10% of the clubs they did at their height a decade ago. Trust your troops in the field to manage the stores for maximum profitability and productivity instead of changing initiatives and direction ever quarter.
