I worked at Bally Total Fitness part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very flexible staff. Free gym membership. A lot of easy going people who had similar interests as you. Not a very high stress job, even though you have to meet monthly revenue quotas. Great prices and deals offered a lot of the time. Family friendly.

    Cons

Some places are bad locations. As all customer service related jobs, you'll always have to deal with very difficult people. Sometimes the general system at headquarters was no updated, so you couldn't give your clients and members the proper information they were looking for.

Sweaty people, but thats to be expected, its a gym

I worked at Bally Total Fitness

    Pros

The compensation was mediocre. Established great relationships with some amazing colleagues.

    Cons

Poor management of assets and various supplier contracts led to unnecessary hurdles. Real estate department was exceptionally poor in this area. Job security would be in question a good portion of the time even while exceeding revenue goals.

Company allows you to make your own schedule. As a college student it is ideal but not if you are looking to make a living.

    Cons

    Lack of organization.
Managers don't know what they are doing.
    No opportunity for growth.
    Low pay.

I worked at Bally Total Fitness full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

This cutting edge Health Club offered upward mobility in every area. I advanced through management very quickly based on my sales performance. Supervisors were very supportive. Great pay! Achieved 100,000k in income before I left.

    Cons

Very long work days. Typical day was 12 hrs. Pay scale would change sometimes based on a large contract sold. Too much travel on the last half of my career. Was gone too long from my family

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To select sales staff demanding a very high standard and work ethics.

I worked at Bally Total Fitness full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

CIO was very aggressive about new technology and permitted a loose, happy work environment - all the while pushing us to be a high-functioning team. Best team environment I've even seen.

    Cons

The business was poorly managed. They grew by acquisition, not by organic growth, taking on too much debt, and ultimately dying in paroxysms of bankruptcy cycles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Natural growth is always better (when possible) than buying competition - unless it's at a firesale.
