Pros
-Great employee discount
-Depending on your location, a generally polite and clean clientele
-Lots of feedback from managers, and internal motivation
-Clear goals and quotas
Cons
-As with any retail job, you must be ready for a standing, moving, and constantly selling environment.
-Other retailers may have more incentives for employees
-Not enough hours for part timers
-Inconsistency with scheduling
Advice to Senior Management
-plan consistent (or moderately consistent) scheduling.
Pros
The management staff is friendly, knowledgeable, fair and fun to work with. The employee areas (break area, bathrooms) are always very clean, though i'm not sure who takes care of that stuff.
Cons
The pay is bare minimum wage, which isn't awful for what you do, but at a store like BR where the price point is fairly high I expected more. If you don't like folding clothes when it's slow, don't bother with retail!
Pros
Great discounts and benefits for p/t. Flexible scheduling. Great incentives
Cons
There is no downside working for Banana. Pushing the Banana card can be tedious and difficult in this economic downturn. Working Black friday sucks.
Pros
Employee discount was fairly decent up until they started giving customers the same perks so the company could meet sales goals without taking steep discounts on merchandise. 4 weeks vacation.
Cons
Pay scale is not fair. Numerous times I managed other employees who were being paid more than me, who had less experience. Large corporation who pays poorly. Company seems to have lost their direction. Gap Inc was the place to work in the late 90's early 2000's but they have lost they're target market. Too much product, less is more. Unrealistic time frames in which they want task/assignments completed.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to pay better attention to whom you promote. Focus more on what your customer needs and less on selling credit cards. Probably wouldn't lose so many managers to competition if you would pay more competitively. Bottom line based on lack of work/ personal life balance I stepped down to part time. I recently interviewed for a full time position and was offered 27,000 a year (salary) I had ten years with the company and 8 spent in a management role. I left and was offered a position with a competitor for 47,000 a year (salary). I was insulted for the last time by Gap Inc.
Pros
if you like fashion, this is the place for you. if you like being over worked and under paid banana is the place for you
Cons
over worked and under paid. great company to work for but they dont appreciate their employee. the discount is great
Pros
The managers were nice at times.
Cons
It was a very annoying job. Snotty customers who thought they were on top of the world because they shopped at Banana Republic. Overall crowd of shoppers over the age of 30.
Pros
Great pay, awesome discount, cool coworkers
Cons
Shoving banana cards down people's throat
Advice to Senior Management
Actually teach us things about how to do the job, instead of making us feel like we're stupid. Don't be rude, and make racist comments.
Pros
The work is not hard, mostly just folding clothes and running for sizes. I never felt too pressured by the management. Very friendly people.
Cons
The job can be very boring at times. Would not let me talk to much to other employees. Possible upward growth but not easy
Advice to Senior Management
keep doing what you are doing. I do not have to many negative things to say to my management, very pleased.
Pros
Co-workers are great
50% discount
Their different sales on apparel are great
Cons
Very low wages...literally under $9/hr
Very low raises...such as 9 cents, 15 cents, 25 cents, etc...and this is within a year
High turnover ratio
They expect you to not want to move up in life
They work you extremely hard and you're not rewarded
They hound you for Banana Cards
Advice to Senior Management
They only look after each other....the subordinates' desires and needs are meaningless to management..
Pros
they have flexible schedules, and are willing to accomodate leaves. Also, they do good in store training and are constantly updating their employees on new products.
Cons
it can be boring at times, but overall good experience. Can be slow, and can be extremely fast and busy during the holiday months. Can get messy and times and folding clothes gets repetitive. Some customers can be rude
Advice to Senior Management
Encourage diversity and also take time to educate employees about the offerings and products. Many times there are employees who are clueless at to what is offered in its stores and which demographics it targets.
