    Pros

    -Flexible
    -Large corporate backing
    -Strong leaders
    -Easy transfers
-Ability to move up if you work for it
    -Family atmosphere
-Gap, INC. has amazing company core values

    Cons

    -Hard to get a raise
-If business is slow your hours are cut, but that's the true for any retail job

    Advice to Management

-The highest raise you can earn in your yearly review is $.25 which is beyond frustrating
-Dedicate more time to training new employees

  2. Flexible hours, awful pay, and no benefits.

    Pros

The employee discount is higher than the industry standard and can be used across Gap Inc owned companies, which is nice. You aren't required to wear Banana Republic clothing, though the dress code varies greatly by store: my store was very relaxed, whereas other stores in the are a lot stricter.
The hours are flexible and they tend to work around your availability.
Like most retail stores there are slow months, so you can expect to work anywhere from 15 hours a week to 40 depending on the month and your availability.

    Cons

Promotions are hard to come by unless you play the game and know the right people--it's all about politics with this company. Raises are capped at .25 a year, and you're supposed to get a review every six months with the possibility of a raise--yet my store manager didn't believe in them so what you got hired at was basically what you stayed at. In addition to that, the pay is lower than most other retail stores.
There are no benefits offered to part time employees aside from the discount.

    Advice to Management

Provide more opportunities to move up within the company instead to just offering the same people more promotions.

    Pros

Great discount, great employees / management depending on location, ability to move up in company if willing to work hard and put time it.

    Cons

Horrible loss prevention / human resources rules and shady business within them, hours are always up and down depending on business at the moment, pay is okay not awesome but not awful

    Pros

SOME ASSOCIATES AND MANAGERS WERE NICE TO WORK WITH. good Discount but pay is so low regardless of experience and hours are random and unreliable, to have any kind of real income. If you want a g0od discount and nothing else matters to you, rather you don't need a salary, or if you have never had a job before then you might not mind it.

    Cons

There are many, but the main problem with this company is that the CEO and top execs do very well at their employees expense. Poor salary, and they don't tell you that you are expected to come in at 6:00 AM to clean the toilets and mop the floors? They hire no one else to prep and remodel or even do any kind of janitorial work? Employees are expected to do this? I believe janitorial services are unionized and salaries are more than they pay their sales people and managers. They do not hire anyone full time so they do not have to guarantee any hours or pay any benefits, and they don't have a proper break room for employees, since the managers often choose to hold meetings there when they want, also no parking, so you spend every break and lunch moving your car, they have a weird system where you are not supposed to be commission based, or that your sales should matter, so they may have you doing something else always, while they have others ring up sales. In spite of the no commission they still pressure you and threaten you to "get in the customer's face" a quote by the top manager. They are big on pressuring you to sign people up for charge cards and if you don',t they really penalize you, actually the manager always threatened as a tactic to punish you... his management style, he had obvious favorites, and was very unprofessional, the previous manager was much different however. I can't imagine people who have worked for other companies are very happy to stay with this company for any length of time, especially if they have had the same positions anywhere else? There is a permanent "help wanted" sign in the window and they are always hiring lots of people while not giving employees that have been with them for some time any hours--they want total flexibility and this is how they get it. I do imagine each atmosphere differs between managers and their professionalism, but this is a company that does not seem to want to attract the best and the brightest in their field? They show no loyalty or respect to their employees, and even not working there, its a difficult thing to see.

    Advice to Management

Make sure your managers are professional and can show respect for others, as well as being emotionally mature! Pay your employees better, offer benefits to keep them--the best people are the old timers that were grandfathered in with full time benefits. They are successful because they know their jobs and the company well from their years of experience there, and as a familiar face that makes them feel like valued customers and friends--That is what creates a good client base, and loyal shoppesr. A little goes a long wa, so. keep your employees happy, and your customers will be happy, and stop the bargain basement game unless you're haapy with that image, but as someone that worked there, it attracts more shoppers that people don't want and that never spend and just cause more trouble and mess going through sales racks that you have to pay someone to try to keep up. An occasional special is appreciated by most customers, but the endless guess the price today game is exhausting and irritating and just cheapens the shopping experience. So decide what kind of business you want to attract? Also maybe spending some time putting a personal training manual together for new employees, so they have something to refer to in their off time, and trying to keep those then more knowledgeable employees, even better! Less time and money being spent on the endless cycle of new employees that will only cost you more money in the end, and money saved can go for raises to existing staff to keep them!

I have been working at Banana Republic part-time

    Pros

I work part-time as a Sales Support Associate. Management team has been very open and accepting of my availability due to my other job. Its a pretty standard retail job. Managers do push and encourage to uphold the BR standards of customer service. I know some people complain about the pay but its actually a lot better than a lot of companies. The store I work at definitely tries to push management and growth to those associates who do a good job.

    Cons

Schedule...giving up nights and weekends is a bummer
