I worked at Banana Republic full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The actual company itself is great - feels like a family. Everyone is genuinely friendly, the discount is amazing, and the customer base is relatively friendly and in my experience rarely hostile. The management truly cares for all of the employees and tries best to meet your needs, there's a lot of training; however, not a lot of room for advancement.

    Cons

The hours are horrible, I'll admit they range from 5am shifts to 7:30am shifts always expect multiple overnights in a row and they schedule outside of availability. Most people who work there cycle out quickly, if you make it past the year point you usually work there for a very long period of time. There's a lot of high stress situations to deal with - but, in the end the job was manageable.

    Pros

Store was 5 minutes from my house so I had a short commute and I loved my team that I worked with.

    Cons

District management was terrible. There were some stores in the district that the DM hadn't visited in over 2 years. There was no development for any of the staff - from management team to sales team. Company doesn't put any effort in improving employees.

I have been working at Banana Republic part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I have three of the best managers! I love what the company stands for. Being able to speak with the general public and listen to all their funny stories. Seeing the customers smile because you made them feel important. As an employee you get 50% off your purchases.

    Cons

I prefer working with two out of the three. One manager in particular seems to get anxious which doesn't create a warm environment, but you can tell she cares.

You don't get a lot of hours. One week, I only worked one day out the week for 4 hours. If you have bills and/or student loans then you will need a better job.

Something that might not seem fun, is trying to get customers to sign up for a Banana Republic card (management strongly suggest this).

If you have never worked in a retail store before, there will be a lot of things you may have never heard, but coworkers will speak to you as if you do. Don't be silent! Ask questions!

    Pros

excellent environment and managers very accesible

    Cons

little advancement for employees especially if sales assoc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

rotate people around, sales associate get tired of being all the time in the floor and need some time as cashiers, same thing for cashiers need more time out in the floor

I worked at Banana Republic full-time

    Pros

Great PTO accrual & that's about it! People say discount is great, but if you shop every other day you can get same discount as employees without having to survive the horrible environment.

    Cons

    Out of touch leadership
    Unrealistic expectations
Leadership expects stores to " stuff 100lbs. of crap in a 10lbs. Bag." Resources don't provide opportunity to achieve expectations.
Drama, unprofessional, nonsupport, stress... if you work well in these conditions BR is for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In order to change/advance you must first come to terms with reality

    Pros

The company discount was favorable. It came in handy when purchasing interview clothes for a real job.
    That about covers it.

    Cons

Work/life balance is nonexistent. Constant availability is required though only a small number of hours are given to each employee. The work is mind numbing and unrewarded.
