I worked at Bancroft Neurohealth full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Being part of a team of advocates for the persons served with traumatic brain injury, whether acquired or inherited. CEO Toni Pergolin is open to communications, down to earth, innovative and accessible.
Values and Mission Statement are in line with my personal code of ethics and are authentically practiced.

    Cons

Pay rate is below average as a non-profit; raises and promotions are rare. More training and cross-training would be helpful. High burn-out for direct program associates; might benefit from regular built-in respite for the caregivers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer better salaries and regular raises, including merit raises or performance bonuses. Run the organization more like a commercial, for profit business.

    Pros

The Persons served are great to work with. The job can be rewarding because of the people you are working with. Coworkers can be helpful and kind.

    Cons

Not paid nearly enough, can be an unsafe work environment. Management don't seem to care too much about your well being. Was injured on the job twice before finding a new job. Some management members are great, but most are not able to help you much in the long term. Not a lot of room to grow and make a decent amount of money.

I have been working at Bancroft Neurohealth full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are the best thing about this company. Their health insurance is top notch if you have a family and kids. Tuition reimbursement is another great perk. Making a difference in a child's life and knowing you had a hand in helping them succeed in either learning something new in school or help them learn a new life skill.

    Cons

The pay: for being someone's caretaker and being the backbone for the company the compensation is not close enough to what we deserve (even our School's principal has said it in our meetings). We are paid to change diapers of teenagers, wipe them clean, shower them, shave them, brush their teeth and while your doing that they have behaviors. Now these vary from child to child but I've been punched, slapped, bit, headbutted, spit on, peed on, and defecated on. And that's all for a whopping 9.75/hr.
The training: their training techniques have caused more injuries to staff and have seemed to cause more and escalated behaviors in the children and if you don't follow the right techniques you get written up and could be accused of abuse. So it makes you not want to help out in crisis situations.
The favoritism: It doesn't matter how well you do your job or how deserving you are, you will be passed up for promotions and higher raises if your not buddy, buddy with the managers. You could do the bare minimal and skate by but kiss the right butts and get promotions, while others bust their butts and pick up the slack for everyone else and get passed up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your 1:1 staff they know the kids better than anyone else. Show them appreciation give them real raises and not 1, 2, or 3 percent raises that doesn't even make a difference in our checks. Go back to giving Christmas bonuses not having raffle at our holiday party where you give away food from Sysco. Heck we would be happy with a couple T-shirts. But it would at least make it seem like you care about us
