Current Employee – been working at Bank Mutual as a contractor
Pros – Numerous branch locations make it easy to find a location near to where you live. Free parking, on line training programs. Most co-workers are intelligent and diligent in their job duties.
Cons – Bank Mutual brings in many full time hourly workers so that they do not have to provide benefits. The top management is and has been run by the Crowley Family for the past 120 years and the current CEO is a joke. Corporate office has worn and dirty carpeting and regular employees are somewhat segmentated from the temporary full time contract workers.
Advice to Senior Management – Do not be stuck in a 1970s mind set. The Board of Directors needs to be more diverse and less rigid and more forward thinking and progressive. Also remove the Crowleys from all Executive Management functions.

Current Employee – been working at Bank Mutual
Pros – Wonderful co-workers, fair pay, minimal commute (several locations to choose from), hours, opportunity for personal and professional enrichment and ability to make more money by selling products.
Cons – Upper management and marketing teams have the reputation for appearing and acting inexperienced and unprofessional. Although good management exists within the company, it can be rare to find. The Bank itself appears to work behind-the-times and although this approach makes it comfortable for long-standing customers, it does not work well to produce profitable results for new and/or younger clients.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your Teller staff and listen well. They are on the front lines and see trends you do not.

Current Employee – been working at Bank Mutual
Pros – It's a start and a foot in the door to the banking industry.
Cons – The marketing and marketing department could be much better. For a bank of it's size no one has heard of Bank Mutual, yet management expects you to hit sales goals with practically no assistance or backing from the company. The bank is doing old school banking in a new school world. and expects 'us' (the staff) to try and keep up with the bigger more well known banks that offer better products and better advertising/marketing.
Advice to Senior Management – Try to look at what the other banks are doing and mimic their success. Do more advertising!

Current Employee – been working at Bank Mutual
Pros – Bank Mutual gives someone wanting to start a career a chance at the opportunity to use their training program to start to develop basic work place skills. There is a new incentive plan that allows even new employees to have some success with completing sales. The branch level teller work is stable, low stress, and with a consistent schedule you can actually plan a life around.
Cons – There is a complete lack of perception of the target market. The bank claims to be targeting generation Y, yet does nothing to create products or services for said demographic. The marketing department does little to no marketing and is completely baffled by even some of the smallest requests. Perhaps an investment in a color printer, unibind machine, and common sense would help when a 10 page informational packet is requested.
My branch was directed to create a marketing plan, the branch not the marketing dept is supposed to make the plan. Our guidance on creating a plan was; checking, loans, cross sell, annuities. buzz words and products were listed, not actual guidance or assistance or any sort of help.
A demand to produce and zero guidance or support characterizes the corporate office of Bank Mutual.
Advice to Senior Management – Clean up your upper management team, its completely unrealistic to expect branches with zero resources (lack of marketing, adequate personnel e.g. personal bankers, training in business banking, effective commercial bankers.)
You come up with ideas, but have zero follow through or ways of actually completing them.

Former Employee – worked at Bank Mutual
Pros – The money was great. The pay was at the top of the scale for the area. And the branches are run at the manager's discretion in many ways.
Cons – Management never seemed to have any idea what they were doing. They were not good at staying in touch with the needs of the different branches. Training was nearly non-existent.
