I worked at Bank of America part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Bank of America offers a competitive salary, great benefits, and many opportunities to advance within the company. Very professional environment and great place to work.

    Cons

Training can be confusing at first, as is it is very intense. Also, in addition to basic teller responsibilities, you are expected to make referrals at a high rate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make an incentive program where you get paid more to get referrals.

I have been working at Bank of America full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Benefits, learning opportunities, several tools to help associates grow.

    Cons

At least in Retail, upper management is amazing! Human, knowledgeable and caring . Middle management , however, needs more focus. Old folks are amazing. Newcomers need to learn more about the business before taking on that responsibility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Careful with external management hires. At least the ones new to banking all together .

I have been working at Bank of America full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The best thing working at Bank of America/Merrill Lynch is the fact that the benefits are really awesome. 401k matching up to 5%, Paid time off, extended vacation leave up to 3 weeks(Depends on the line of business) at start and so much more! You work with some of the best people in the financial sector. Everyone is knowledgeable about their position, professionalism is rampant and ingrained in the culture, and you are rewarded based upon how you can improve your Line of business, and make processes more efficient. On the Merrill side, the managers are really helpful and truly want to see you succeed and make a name for yourself. At Merrill, micro-management is almost non-existent at the management level and policies are well thought out for the employee and the customers.

    Cons

It depends on your LOB. There are some LOB's that have almost no work life balance such as at the branch level where you are literally eating and sleeping the customer's concerns, which can be really stressful. BOA/Merrill really tries to make it a fun environment for those that work in lines of business that are on the phones, but compensation could be higher for them. Most people at Merrill worry about how the banks culture is going to affect the firm as a whole in a negative way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing! Continue to discourage and stamp out micro-management and favoritism at all levels of the bank. Continue to keep a customer first driven culture.
