Pros
Bank of America is very involved with community development and participates in numerous charities. The opportunity to help so many organizations is the only redeeming quality BofA has at this moment.
Cons
The senior management group does not listen to feedback provided by the associates. All of the "Best Companies to Work For" type surveys typically will have Bank of America listed in the top 100, if not the top 50. But, what it doesn't outline is the months of coercion we're subjected to in an attempt to receive high ratings. If the ratings are low, associates must go through meeting after meeting after meeting to review why the results are low. This tends to be a total waste of time since, once again, senior management doesn't listen any way. The senior management team for my department has lied about the premise of certain guidelines or changes to policy on so many occasions they simply can't be trusted. The department manager is arrogant, the management team is inept and the associates doing 99% of the work are subjected to their faults.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't lie. We're smart, we'll figure out the truth at some point, and you'll just end up looking like total ass holes. Don't harass us into rating Bank of America the best place to work. If you want satisfied associates, don't make stupid decisions that will cause a back log of over thirty five THOUSAND loans then require "mandatory" overtime to get caught up. Don't pimp "job security" when you're laying off great associates due to poor planning. And, Oh Good GOD please stop acting like you support your associates when we know you only see us as numbers and not actual people.
Pros
It's a job. Better than being unemployed, but not by much. The work is easy, although the bank hires mostly people who will never figure out how to do their job correctly (they are either too stupid to do the job correctly or too lazy). You get free checking and stuff, but the people who handle the accounts constantly screw them up...so I actually bank with a different bank. They like to give out cheap 99 cent store type gifts and crappy food for doing a job well done instead giving out bonuses or raises for doing a good job.
Cons
Senior management does not get people who actually do the job to work on projects that affect the job. They spew corporate BS about the BofA spirit and how family oriented the bank is then they require mandatory overtime for months at a time. Senior management lies to their employees to the point where we can't trust them anymore with anything.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't lie to your employees. Instead of games, prizes & spirit events cut out all that BS and just pay your employees higher salaries.
Pros
There are no glass ceilings for women. Women hold very high offices in the company. BofA is very supportive of work/life balance and promotes opportunities to work from home and work flexible schedules. (This is not true in the local branch offices where customer service during "store hours" has to be supported)
Cons
TOO big. Employees are truly only numbers. All personnel functions are outsourced so if you have a personal issue that you need to address with the Personnel Dept (such as sick leave, or retirement planning) you cannot talk to a Bank of America employee. You end up talking to an insensitive outsider. Very frustrating, but it's one of the byproducts of growing too big.
Also, all advancement opportunities are in Charlotte now. To get noticed by the topmost levels of management, you have to live in Charlotte.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop focusing on quantity and start improving quality. The continual pursuit of growth by acquisition has weakened the company.
