I worked at Bank of America part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

You get discounts on products and services. Training took less than 2 weeks on the computer but wasn't very helpful until I got on the teller line to get hands-on experience. Many opportunities to advance into other positions. I personally think that Bank of America is one of the better banks to start your banking experience with because it has an easier entry program and it treats staffs fairly well.

    Cons

Manager micromanages and it makes me feel uncomfortable sometimes. Low starting wage.

I have been working at Bank of America

    Pros

The benefits are very good. Tuition reimbursement and insurance if you want it. Also, 3,000.00 reimbursement for purchasing a new hybrid vehicle. Paid vacations starting at two weeks when you're first hired. Paid public holidays.

    Cons

High turnover, ineffectual management, some employees don't pull their own weight. You can't rely on people to help you out to move up in the company, you need to actively seek out mentors and ask questions all the time to get on their radar.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Mangement should be more flexible with scheduling when possible. I can not for the life of me figure out why they make the schedules the way they do sometimes, making people work five days a week for only four hours a shift is a ineffectual and frustrating. Why not just have someone work a full shift two-three days a week.

I worked at Bank of America full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Many BoA employees are great people, benefits are not bad. Company makes it easy to network with other banking centers and explore alternate job roles.

    Cons

Growth within the company is tedious, pay is low. Commission is a joke for most roles, and aggressive sales goals seem to have little incentive for completion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees more to show you value them.

I worked at Bank of America full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

So many cons which need to be addressed at the corporate level. The only pros worth mentioning are the medical benefits and 401k.

    Cons

Unethical management practices at the branch level in order to meet goals. Micromanaging employees every minute of the day. Expectation is to work overtime without pay in order to meet goals. Dishonest to customers regarding their "needs" for new accounts in order to cash bank checks, and many customers have an unruly number of accounts just to show branch "sales". Vacation requests approved would require employees to work the Saturday before and the Saturday after the one week request, to only allow 5 days off plus Sunday. Ridiculous game-playing to kill morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do the right thing for customers, and the rest will fall into place. If the culture is to get employees to take unethical and dishonest measures with customers regarding quotas and the declining of legitimate quests for fee reversals in order to meet company goals, then the company culture, reputation, and employee morale will suffer. It was a terrible work environment.

I worked at Bank of America full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good employee benefits and the stand perks of working for a large corporation. The offices are well furnished and the equipment is up-to-date.

    Cons

Much is promised, but very little is actually delivered to customers and employees. There are many conscientious employees who are truly dedicated to providing superior service; however the company infrastructure will not allow them to provide quality service. Everything is heavily weighted in the bank’s favor, at the customer’s expense. This is extremely disheartening to employees and many leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is totally out of touch with their customers and employees. They do not fully grasp how much they are hated by the public. It is time to face the facts and make some real changes.

    Pros

Some good co-workers and funny stories

    Cons

Work out the kinks in your system, find a general way to find out information instead of word of mouth, treat your employees less like slaves

    Pros

My coworkers--at any location I was placed.

    Cons

Anything you hear about banks is true. At one point, my own manager asked me to lie to potential clients (by telling them there was something going on with a check, for instance, they were trying to cash) in order to attempt and get accounts opened. They are disgraceful and find their employees disposable no matter how great your performance is.
