Pros

benefits are very good

Cons
pay level is lower than most companies
advancement is not quick
Pros
Multiple locations worldwide, good training opportunities
Cons
Lack of transparency; The gap between executive salaries and worker bees is one of the worst in the industry. When the latest cost reduction program was announced in 2011, it apparently did not apply to senior or even middle management - but it did apply to general staff. New policies never apply to the upper echelons. For example, all raises were frozen, but the CEO got a 70% raise, and then a $33 Million package when he was kicked out. People who were laid off got 2wks for every year at the firm, up to 1 year - but not as an exit package, as supplemental uninsurance benefits, which disappeared when/if they found work. If I knew then (when I started working for them) , I would have seriously considered another company.
Pros
People are nice and management is very flexible regarding the time off. Supervisors and units managers often recognize when you are doing a good job.
Cons
There is not much room for growth and salaries are not very competitive. It seems that there is only vertical growth and it takes a long time to move up.
Advice to Senior Management
Create opportunities so that the employees can see other areas of the business rather than staying in a position for years with no room for advancement.
Pros
Good pay for experieinced people, NY folks are great to work with, and the execs are trying to change the culture since the merger.
Cons
Technology is 20 years behind others, no joke! Pittsburgh employees are backstabbers, the IT folks in Pitt are mostly interested in Steelers vs. working - they are lazy, lack any real development skills, and mgmt seems to put women in key positions more often than not (all for it, as I am a woman myself)... way too many people in mgmt levels, lots fo $ being spent, but lousy technology and mostly a manual process to get anything. They have Lotus Notes E-mail ! HR is incompetent at best, they really are the worst I have ever seen in over 20+ years of working! They do nothing and contribute 0 to value-add. Try to work in NY i you have to work there, and avoid Pitt at all costs - they are lazy, backstabbers, and work at most 7 hour days - and way too many people in IT there - they should fire all of them!
Advice to Senior Management
Fire everyone in Pittsburgh for starters, get rid of the head of HR, ad get a new CIO who actually knows what he's doing!
Pros
Bank of New York Mellon has decent benefits and a good name. The location is very good and there are some really good people who work there.
Cons
The system is really disorganized and there are lots of inefficiencies. There is a lot of BS and not a lot of transparency. For instance, they were saying that we were doing really well financially compared with the other banks, then the next week, people were getting laid off.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't gossip about others in the office in front of other workers. It makes them wonder if you're going around and gossiping about them too.
Pros
Time work day ends, long lunch break. Job stability seems great.
Cons
Not enough interaction between coworkers and management. You are basically on your own and get very little input from management. Some like it, some dont.
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate more with your employes and get coworkers to socialize more. Let your employees know where they stand instead of having no input/criticism.
Pros
1) I Proud at BNY, Bcoz working in a captive
2) Also getting Recognition outside
3) Contacted by various Employers for other Job Opportunities
Cons
1) Premises is very small as compare to other Companies
2) Salary is very low as compare to other Employers like Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro etc
3) Please please Please work on Cafeteria Management, We employees want good food as well as Healthy....Don't increase our salary, don't give us Promotion, But please provide us Healthy Food. Because we work for 10 hrs and at late night when we go to cafeteria,we get that unhealthy food always....It humble request!
Advice to Senior Management
I want leaders of BNY should work on Food Facility of BNY, I had written everything in Cons Section about Food facilities
Pros
The people I work with and my internal clients are very smart, professional, helpful and create a very nice environment to work in. They are always open to discuss and/or help with a question or difficult situation, and seem to be loyal and happy employees.
Cons
Sometimes communication can break-down when you are not an employee, or when the workload of you or your supervisor can overwhelm your calendar leaving little time to meet and discuss matters.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more open, honest and proactive in dealing with employment issues and changes. Make time to meet with direct reports to discuss status of ongoing, long-term projects.
Pros
Pros mentioned are to profile. Job satisfaction, appreciative senior management and global exposure make it a great place to work. Flexible working hours are also a big plus.
Cons
Too much of a BPO culture in the Indian office is a motivation killer due to limited involvement/ownership in the processes and consequent low responsibility and accountability on the part of staff.
Advice to Senior Management
Necessary to hire high-end resources especially in a low-cost location like India, though it will lead to per head increase of staff costs. This will lead to better quality work being off-shored, since Onshore SMEs will have more confidence.
