Pros
Barclaycard US pays well compared to its competitors and gives out 22 days of vacation to new employees. It has a friendly environment and has a lot of fun and interesting events to keep people engaged. Recently we had a ping pong tournament and have a baseball game planned soon.
Cons
Right now most employees don't have laptops so we need to print out presentations before we go to meetings instead of just emailing it.
Pros
work/life balance
rather casual dress code
Cons
the organization is flat. opportunities for advancement seem few and far between.
not enough hiring from within.
Advice to Senior Management
Become more engaged with the ground troops.
Pros
Great Work/Life balance. Very spacious and comfortable office environment and nicely situated on the riverfront. Strong backing from parent company Barclays.
Cons
Executive Mgmt strategy and planning for integration was decided and enacted before it was properly planned - lending to a frustrating environment where reorganizations occur every 3-6 months.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep executive management accountable to poor decisions
Pros
Great work/life balance, flexable schedules.
Cons
There are promotions without a monatary reward.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay your people what they are worth
Pros
Compensation and benefits were superior to many other banks in the area.
Cons
It has become a very political and stressful environment where employees are rewarded less for working more in a bad work environment.
Advice to Senior Management
With top down poor management, many good employees have been driven away. Good work environment is as rewarding as total compensation and benefits. I wish Barclays management would understand that happy employees make better business.
Pros
Not many layers of management
Cons
Does not have competitive advantage
Pros
Fast growing
Strong finanical support from Barclays
Cons
Lack of core strength
Lower name recognition
Pros
If you like a very fast pace.
Cons
There are too many contractors employed.
Advice to Senior Management
The company needs to hire more full time employees. This will help reduce the high turnover.
Pros
Work/family balance
Other than Exec Comm, really good people at the company
Affordable work/community location
Cons
Short term focus of decision-making
No loyalty
Poor view to promotional opportunities
No raises in several years despite only '09 being unprofitable
Key decisions all London based
Advice to Senior Management
Get a new CEO who manages the business for longer term horizon and that is empowered by London HQ
Pros
Barclays Bank of Delaware does in fact pay very well in comparision to many other industries.
Cons
When you actually figure out the time required to be spent at work as well as the difficult environment the hourly wage comes out much less than expected. You are always having to do 200% with no down time and fire fighting instead of planning. Often encouragement to do more overtime and work is done with whips and bats instead of understanding that they have asked the same people to do 200% for the past 8 continious months..
Advice to Senior Management
The company generally promotes "friends" and not those who produce or they move those who don't deal well with others as managers to get them off the producing lines..
