An overall poor experience in the credit department, despite working with motivated and intelligent co-workers.

    Pros

-Comparatively good benefits -Good company events and outings -Barclaycard is growing aggressively in the United States. This can be a great opportunity to start a career.

    Cons

Within credit department: -inconsistent quality feedback, which determines incentive pay. -credit managers and facilitators berate and criticize analysts instead of providing effective leadership. -demanding environment with constantly changing quality standards.

    Advice to Management

Buying pizza once a week does not solve the fact that this department's turnover rate is unacceptable. It is a call center. Analysts are stressed and dread being on the phone. Understand this and establish a more positive team environment. Stop treating junior analysts poorly and start managing. Key recommendations: -Establish consistency with quality feedback. Each QA analyst provides similar, but different feedback and this keeps analysts running in circles -Promote facilitators that are mature enough to take on a management role. Multiple facilitators bully analysts, thus increasing turnover. -Consider different ways to track goals and accomplishments. Pitting analysts against either by ranking is ineffective for a team. Focus less on top performers and more on team oriented incentive goals. -Work toward keeping analysts. It's not the job pushing your employees away, it's the credit department culture. This is a growing company in a strong business. There is potential to achieve enormous accomplishments. Please read this review and consider serious changes.

    Pros

Barclaycard US is specialized - only credit cards and deposits. If you know these products, you do well.

    Cons

Barclays, the global bank in the UK, is almost always struggling. So, even though the US card business does pretty well, they have to deal with global problems such as financial issues with the investment bank and a slow-growth consumer franchise in England. This results in budget cuts and layoffs every 2 years.

    Advice to Management

Rapid growth has slowed. You're gonna have to get aggressive. Pick something and go with it!
