Reassuring

Summer Technology Analyst (Former Employee)
London, England (UK)

I worked at Barclays Capital as an intern for less than a year

ProsDefinitely a great experience on the summer intern programme, much better than expected given the outlook on investment banks. Very friendly, open and supportive. The Meet an MD programme is invaluable and unmatchable.

ConsThe general cut-throat, competitive nature of the industry does always lead to bad traits in certain people who wish to trample their way to the top or simply keep others from rising. However as mentioned this was experienced very little and overall great vibe with excellent opportunities.

Advice to Senior ManagementGreat work on the transformation of the banks image, and even the cheesy new RISES motto does help provide a better working environment! Keep it up.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Director in private equity division rates the responsibility held, strong involvement in the investments managed .

Director (Former Employee)
London, England (UK)

I worked at Barclays Capital full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGreat responsibility and involvement. Within my team a good team spirit and clever and dedicated colleagues. Profit share arrangements meant good rewards for good long term performance.

ConsMy division was OK but politics at Barcap level unpleasant, with senior management more interested in this year's bonus than the right outcome for the medium term.

Advice to Senior Managementdon't allow "stars" to behave badly.

An excellent company offering great benefits

Financial Analyst (Former Employee)
London, England (UK)

I worked at Barclays Capital full-time for more than a year

ProsGood internal culture and lines of communication and up to date technology. A smaller business makes it easier to get ahead

ConsBe prepared to work very long hours or even sleep in the office, there may be some cut backs with the changing face of banking and asset management

Advice to Senior ManagementI would advise that management think about how they may diversify services and company with other asset management companies as well as moving into other stream of business within securities dealing

Highly challenged organisation with unstable leadership

Director (Current Employee)
London, England (UK)

I have been working at Barclays Capital full-time for more than a year

ProsIf clocking time with the least effort possible with dull, uninteresting people is your thing, this is the place for you

ConsUnstable leadership, business is in disarray and unable to generate enough revenues to make strategic investments necessary to reduce the cost of operating the firm. Tried to attract outside leaders who stayed a few months and ran for the hills. Among the worst compensation

Advice to Senior ManagementRetain your strategic, senior hires for more than 8 months
