I have been working at Barclays Capital full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great office culture. Good choice for personal growth due to the large number of teams available. Flexible working hours as well.

    Cons

Too many teams. Work can get hazy due to a large number of teams collaborating. Case of too many cooks spoiling the broth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great work especially on the values.

I worked at Barclays Capital full-time

    Pros

Employees generally get along and treat other co workers well. There is a good work life balance. Good place to start off career and finish out but not as good in between.

    Cons

The company lacks direction and a lot of turnover of leadership in past few years. The talent attrition continues to be a problem and one they have to fix if they want to remain competitive.

Good professional opportunities but the firm is falling behind the leading investment banks.

I worked at Barclays Capital full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Global investment bank so it provides opportunities to work across the globe. Good and balanced blend of legacy Barclays and legacy Lehman employees plus new hires since 2008. Good work-life/vacation time.

    Cons

The lives of the majority of the employees were encumbered by an expensive and time-consuming rebranding and reengineering of the firm's culture that had suffered because of the missteps of a small number of key employees. That lead to lack of focus on producing. Morale is at new lows.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

While attempting to incorporate positive long-term values current senior management seems really only focused on the results from the next quarter. They drive lay-offs and departmental reorganizations that are a huge distraction. There is no clear strategy regarding the investment bank.

I worked at Barclays Capital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Barclays has talented people across the organization, there are definitely smart players here who understand the market and the business they are in. The place was fairly flexible about time off, and some work life balance.

    Cons

The place is quietly very political, with different fiefdoms among teams and individuals who are supported and not supported. The lack of success in the investment banking space means the place is shedding people and not paying competitively. Often the true status of things are not expressed until people are shorted on bonuses or let go. The future of the i bank as a major player in the US is really up for grabs

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For a management team that gives lip service to integrity and openness, the number of scandals and regulatory issues is stunning. Decide if you want to really be a major player

I have been working at Barclays Capital

    Pros

A lot social events for intern to reach out senior employees in the company. Freedom to choose your team with plenty choices

    Cons

I really cannot think out any cons here. But a few weeks ago, Barclays in AMER laid off many people and now it is in the law suit issue about its dark pool.

I have been working at Barclays Capital full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Lengthy vacation policy compared to the street. Fair comp, decent management. Plenty of smart people who on the whole enjoy the work they're doing and are keen to share knowledge.

    Cons

Constant threat of redundancies. Certain people kept around in a job they aren't qualified for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make an effort to retain the good workforce you already have rather than striving to find the next cheapest 'low-cost' location.
