    Pros

Friendly team, good to learn things on investment, if you start from different background like IT. Plenty of space to grow within the department.

    Cons

As the culture of big firms, you are boxed in, ie. switch from IT analytics role to quant or trading is next to never.

    Pros

Good benefits, upper management recognition of need to change the culture and reduce complexity by shrinking the IB.

    Cons

The poor IT infrastructure cannot meet regulatory requirements. Deep mistrust between departments. Lots of meetings that accomplish nothing. Stunning lack of communication.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want Barclays to be a bank with integrity as per the firm's bylaws, you should start by not lying about job scope and functions during interviews.

I worked at Barclays Capital full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The health insurance plans, benefits, and 401k are the best aspects of working for this this company. There is also the benefit of working around some very intelligent individuals.

    Cons

applicable to operations teams at the company:

    Poor pay
    High stress
    Low employee morale
    Culture is very poor
    Lack of gratitude from management
    No positive reinforcement
Only acknowledgement when there are problems
    High level of scrutiny
Promotion process and salary increase is poor …ex: very possible that you will make less than the team you manage bc you lose overtime and the adjustment for that loss is terrible
Inconsistent and unfair tuition reimbursement policy (discriminatory)
    No company holiday parties
    No group holiday parties
Poor management at most levels* (there are a handful of good managers who want you to succeed, and who are willing to take time and offer advice, however, these are the minority and you must generally seek them out)
Not somewhere to have a long career

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

improve morale, pay better, show appreciation for the hard work of many employees
