Pros
Some of the benefits are okay, including the 30 days holiday and car allowance.
Good opportunity to learn corporate banking principles and then high tail it out of there to another bank
Cons
Culture is not very professional, with too many personalities not pulling in the same direction (ie focusing on delivering value for the company).
Pay is not great compared to other organisations, particularly for senior programme manager roles
Line management is awful - feedback sessions are not specific and almost impossible to act on feedback.
Although there is a lot said about Topgrading and 360 degree feedback during the interviews - none of these were ever used once working for Barclays Corporate.
Pros
If you enjoy working in a fast paced environment then Barclays will provide that dynamic challenge you desire.
Cons
Long hours at times which impacts the overall satisfaction with your work/life balance.
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership needs to be better in touch with the abilities and limitations of the staff they lead.
Pros
Good Brand Name
One of the highest pay scales in Pune
Cons
Immature senior mgmt.
Very less transparency.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat employees with more respect. Give them some stability, as too many changes over a short period of time would lead to motivation problems.
Need to create more transparency in the decisions that are impacting employees.
Pros
there is good teamwork and work flexibility.People commmuicate openly with feedback ,there are many opportunities to learn when recognised.
Cons
There are a few bad management , met some before. some are really nasty and try to manipulate to their own benefits
Advice to Senior Management
To be the best of everything, the mangement need to show and not only just words that everything is done for the best foreveryone.
Pros
- High performance encouraged/expected but still a relaxed atmosphere.
- Good communication from senior execs about strategy.
- Large organisation so opportunities to move into other areas OK.
- Some line managers ensure consistent development if they have belief in your skills.
- Good work/life balance and managers generally flexible when need to take time off.
Cons
- There is the perception internally that you're far better off pay-wise as an external hire, therefore a lot of the younger talent looks externally for a promotion rather than internally.
- Middle management varies - can have people who are skilled at their job but are not good team leaders, leading a large team - therefore in some teams morale is low.
- In some roles, criteria for promotion to next level is vague and applied inconsistently.
- Systems improving but still a long way to go before this improves efficiency.
Advice to Senior Management
- Needs to be a centralised focus on talent management at lower levels because leaving this solely to individual line managers means some high potential talent will be overlooked - and these are the ones who will be (and have been) poached by your competitors.
- If everyone has to threaten to leave to get paid in line with market rates, the best people will go and you'll be left with those who aren't able to go elsewhere. Loyalty only goes so far.
Pros
Nice offices
the people were friendly
compensation was good
Cons
Location is not good
management are not competent
rumor mill
compensation was spotty, higher ups get it all
Advice to Senior Management
Being humble is ok, listening to others. Compensate others fairly not just the senior management. Create a clear career path, not just scratch the backs of others that will get you promoted.
Pros
Great place to work
Good learning opputunities
Helpful employees
Cons
Management is poor in making decisions
Work is not much appriciated
Advice to Senior Management
correct the pyramid structure
Pros
Big & safe. Great brand reputation.
Cons
Big & safe but overly conservative
Pros
Great opportunity to gain some experience for your CV and work out whether Barclays is a good company to work for in the long term - Barclays was very welcoming however there was mixed review on how good everybodys placements were.
Cons
Some worked alot harder than others - some people were neglected, so it is up to you to make the placement what you want it to be!
Advice to Senior Management
More organisation required for the Grad scheme and better organisation and standardisation of review at the end of the placement.
Pros
35 hour working week, generous holiday allowance, provision for flexible working, brand recognition, and extremely supportive redundancy/relocation package.
Cons
A large company has to work in a certain way, and Barclays are no exception - there is a lot of 'pidgeonholing' of job roles, and the company is so large it's hard to stand out.
As a large company, they tend to be a little more inclined to consider 'staff' as 'human resources' - something to be relocated and redeployed to fit in with a strategy.
Advice to Senior Management
A manager is not the same thing as a person with the right technical skills. There's a good selection of managers within Barclays, but they're not there in all segments of the organization.
