ProsFast-paced work environment, interaction with some very smart individuals, opportunities to work on interesting transactions.

ConsThe culture can be very challenging, and there is very little work life balance present with long hours being the norm. The work environment can also be very bureaucratic.

    Operations Graduate Program

Operations Analyst (Former Employee) New York, NY

    ProsOpportunity to experience different groups
Great training and continued education courses to take.

ConsThe moral of the firm and specifically in Operations was always negative. Too many groups are being outsourced.

Placement process is a little shady but if you know what you want just go after it and speak directly to the appropriate manager asap.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut in place a more transparent promotion process. People are there for 10+, 20+ years and they are still analysts... doesn't make sense.

Great culture, though organization has suffered from a morale problem in recent years.

Analyst (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsStrong support of teamwork vs. individual. Great corporate culture. Mentoring is available at strong levels. Strong recruiting culture, as well.

ConsMorale problem, uncompetitive pay, lack of organizational pride. There have been increased senior management changes in recent years. Recently, there has been a perception of the new CEO as not "getting" the IB business.

    Bank going wrong direction

Associate (Current Employee) New York, NY

    ProsBulge bracket infrastructure and experience.

ConsDouble penalized by the U.K. and the U.S.; CEO who is not fit to run an investment banking business.

Advice to Senior ManagementBenchmark what your 'U.S. competitors' are doing in terms of operating the banking business and the compensation. Also the CEO should be someone with an investment banking background.

Good managers who take the time to teach you the ropes, but sometimes there is a lack of initiative taken.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat company, Canary Wharf is an accessible place

ConsSometimes the upward mobility can be tough
