Pros
Nice offices
the people were friendly
compensation was good
Cons
Location is not good
management are not competent
rumor mill
compensation was spotty, higher ups get it all
Advice to Senior Management
Being humble is ok, listening to others. Compensate others fairly not just the senior management. Create a clear career path, not just scratch the backs of others that will get you promoted.
Pros
Great place to work
Good learning opputunities
Helpful employees
Cons
Management is poor in making decisions
Work is not much appriciated
Advice to Senior Management
correct the pyramid structure
Pros
Big & safe. Great brand reputation.
Cons
Big & safe but overly conservative
Pros
35 hour working week, generous holiday allowance, provision for flexible working, brand recognition, and extremely supportive redundancy/relocation package.
Cons
A large company has to work in a certain way, and Barclays are no exception - there is a lot of 'pidgeonholing' of job roles, and the company is so large it's hard to stand out.
As a large company, they tend to be a little more inclined to consider 'staff' as 'human resources' - something to be relocated and redeployed to fit in with a strategy.
Advice to Senior Management
A manager is not the same thing as a person with the right technical skills. There's a good selection of managers within Barclays, but they're not there in all segments of the organization.
Pros
Great opportunity to gain some experience for your CV and work out whether Barclays is a good company to work for in the long term - Barclays was very welcoming however there was mixed review on how good everybodys placements were.
Cons
Some worked alot harder than others - some people were neglected, so it is up to you to make the placement what you want it to be!
Advice to Senior Management
More organisation required for the Grad scheme and better organisation and standardisation of review at the end of the placement.
Pros
Work-life balance
Competitive salary
Relatively open culture
Open communication
Cons
Politics
Bureacracy
Frequent changes in senior management Strategy
Infrastructure organisation in a mess and difficult to navigate
Motivation issues amongst employees
Advice to Senior Management
Sort out the Infrastructure organisation and be consistent in leadership strategy and decision making,
Pros
flexibility of working hours
plesant offices
relaxed
good compensation packages
401
group work
good managment
take leave
good canteen staff
excellent facilities
Cons
long hours
tight deadlines
some poor managment skills
understaffed
busy ebviroment
poor leadership skills.
incompetent staff
sexism
foul language used
bullying
Advice to Senior Management
keep up the good work . could be better and more understanding of employees needs . and deal with bullys better,
Pros
Nice enough people for a big corporate, was a good team feel until the axe came, and communication from management was ok compare to other places
Cons
Lack of job growth and opportunities. Lack of salary reviews - only 1 a year. Pretty bad project delivery due to disparate IT departments
Advice to Senior Management
Establish career paths for members of staff. Increase salary review periods and invest more in training and professional development
Pros
I noticed the firm is good with allowing employees to take time of for training
Cons
-I was in Credit Risk and it was the most boring job that I ever had
-Weird British culture - certain employees feel that they could take credit for your work or that the credit should be divided evenly. In reality, these employees did not do nearly as much work as the others did on the team.
-If you did a good job on a project that others lack the technical skill sets to complete and moreover, if your work is deemed usable by the team (speaks for itself about the quality), be prepared to be put down by jealous co-workers
-Jealous co-workers will nitpick to find the smallest details that are wrong with your work and magnify them to make you look bad
-Generally speaking, the technical skills(basic excel/Visual Basic) of AVP/above levels are slightly above zero
-If you're a female, everything is a bit easier and people are less likely to get on your back about your lack of technical skills
-EVERYONE COMPLAINS ABOUT THE PAY
Advice to Senior Management
-Communicate with your employees/contractors regularly (unfortunately, I feel that I am stating the obvious)
-Managers know the daily responsibilities of the job that they are hiring for so don't hire people who are overqualified for data-entry roles and then wonder why they are asking you for permission to apply for full-time opportunities with other groups at the firm
Pros
Big brand name . Lots of employess. Good pay. Friendly and smalrt people to work with, but lots of competition.
Cons
Nothing really. Except for competition every else is really good. Good cafeteria to eat food and startbucks to frunk coffee.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work champs. I know Barclays will do good in the short to medium term. About the long term I am not sure.
