    Pros

The only pro while working as a Consultant in IT was that the business stakeholders were cooperating in providing proper requirements, there were exceptions though.

    Cons

The senior leadership works on the premise - "My way on the highway", they are ruthless, disrespectful and their management style is to micro manage people.

A dumb manager used to write emails to me and instruct me to send emails to another member, how dumb one can get considering the fact that she used to sit in an office diagonally opposite to me.

There was no sense of proper business analysis methodologies and the contractors working under her were sucking up to her to be in her good books. I was laid off because I was not afraid and took the bulls by its horns.

    Advice to Management

The management would do well to hire highly skilled and experienced managers who would understand the intricacies of business analysis in and out.

    Pros

I had a great experience for the three years I was there, I had a great support system but ultimately felt that I grew out of my role and needed to experience something else

    Cons

Company is going through a tough transition and talent continues to leave the firm for other opportunities; ultimately I chose to do the same

    Advice to Management

Train and support the junior team; ultimately mid-level and senior executives did not provide much growth opportunity and people have looked to go elsewhere

    Pros

Friendly people, supportive management. There were significant opportunities for professional development as an analyst

    Cons

extremely high turnover and lack of continuity...recent scandals didn't help. It's unclear where the US operations and the future of the investment banking branch are heading.

    Advice to Management

Make One Barclays a Reality instead of just a mantra

    Pros

The building was really nice, The salary was very competitive. Benefits were good.
There were no set hours. I was given work and given a lot of freedom to do it. The system was well designed and there were plenty of smart people. The atmosphere was pretty good.

    Cons

My boss did not want to be bothered and sometimes would not answer emails. Some of the problems that occurred in the system were really tough to solve and not reproducible and no help was given. My team and colleagues were friendly but I rarely went out to lunch or after work with them. Typical drones. I was laid off after a year and a half. They have had some rough times and laid off tens of thousands of people. People were really nervous when lay off were happening.

    Advice to Management

    Be better leaders and mentors.

    Pros

Pretty good work/life balance, all things considered (no crazy hours like investment banking). When I worked there, there was overtime for analysts so that was a great form of compensation. I made a lot of good friends at Barclays.

    Cons

This is not a prestigious job. You are working in the back office of an investment bank. You're not working with Ivy League graduates with MBAs. If you're okay with this, then you'll be fine. It's very hard to be in this group and then switch to a front office role...but in rare cases, it happens.
