Pros
Lot of opportunity to explore things. Either process technologies or anything
Cons
Not having mature software process
Advice to Senior Management
Barco needs to start thinking as real MNC. Still lot of decisions are taken at headquarter only.
Pros
Global company with small company feel. Competitive salary.
Cons
Little opportunity for advancement. No training.
Pros
Many opportunities for growth and learning. We make some truly cool products!
Cons
There is a disconnect between the US and Belgium. Working to resolve those differences can be tough as a lot of the time it's hard to figure out who really has the final say.
Advice to Senior Management
Decide who is in charge and who will have the final say, just to set expectations up front.
Pros
Interesting video & display products
International travel
Leader in medical & cinema
Cons
Wants central Belgium control over everything of importance
Cultural differences between Belgium and rest of Europe & America causes problems
Lots of management layers in Belgium
Hard to get decisions made in timely manner
Advice to Senior Management
Give your remote sites more autonomy & trust in them
Change your Belgium centric culture & attitudes and adopt some more US attitudes
Pros
Good oppertunity for growth and development.
Cons
Lack of long term focus.
Pros
Very interesting work , most people are good to work with. Good environment to get your feet wet so for entry level it a good place to be.
Cons
Some of management staff lack true leadership and not interested in providing many opportunities to grow and be promoted in the company...
Much talent is overlooked and the sharing of information leaves a lot to be desired...
Seems many managers always on edge about their jobs
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in your employees and provide them the feedback when they do a great job. Conversely, if there are concerns about performance, don't wait until review time to voice it.
Pros
Decent flexibility. In general the job is what you make it.
Cons
There isn't any reward for excelling. Raises are non-existent unless you get a job offer to leave for somewhere else.
Advice to Senior Management
Reward and fairly compensate the employees that have shown loyalty and stuck with the company through the good times and all the bad.
Pros
Collaborated with intelligent colleagues in a good work ethic, the work environment was excellent with very interesting products to work on.
Cons
Teams were sometimes hampered by senior management who seemed to be aloof of the core business. See below for further comments.
Advice to Senior Management
There was a failing to the value of Human Resource and management could learn a lot from spending some time in the core business environment.
Pros
Good Work Life Balance , good work environment
Cons
But Beacuse of no expension plan ,no growth
Advice to Senior Management
To complete product on time, Less discussion and Take decision in time, expend workforce and motivate the employee
Pros
The ability to make your job, in a large part you can control what you do when. This is a very good place for the more entrepreneurial type of persons. Especially a good place for engineers who want work in a very technical environment. The diverse business units and international focus of the company make it a very stimulating environment to work in.
Cons
There is little support for those who start in any job. A high degree of initiative is expected, not enforced nor supported. As such you have a disproportionate amount of very strong willed characters all doing exactly what they want. Obviously this does not necessarily create an environment where every nose points in the same direction. A lot of time is lost in reaching the necessary consensus, sometimes requiring large portions of work to be redone.
Advice to Senior Management
Give people a stronger focus on what they need to do and what the reward is for reaching a goal, then stick to it. Usually, a reorganization causes the previous agreements to be forgotten. Secondly, give people a view on the possible career steps, give them something to work towards.
