I have been working at Bare Escentuals part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Free product, Management (varies by store), Easy daily goals, Seasonal trainings held 2-4 times per year, good pay since they recently upped hourly wages to compete with similar companies, You get to help women feel beautiful every day! I loved working for this company for two years, but i am moving to a cosmetics company that knows what they are doing.

    Cons

Slow months = no hours, lots of our girls had to leave because they weren't getting hours and had to find different jobs, low retention rate in lower positions, stressful when traffic is down and you don't make your goals, drama (as is any setting with primarily women), the company has no direct vision and (though 20 years old) is still a very new cosmetics company and has a lot to work on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More training, promote from within the company like you say you do, don't let the new rebrand stop employees from being artists. You constantly change our focuses, one month its skincare, one month its foundation, i understand that you want to be "the best makeup company by 2020", but constantly changing the focus isn't going to achieve that. Let the focus be on the clients and their needs, not on a specific percentage of sales. The sales will come.

I worked at Bare Escentuals part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great products, great customers, innovative

    Cons

As usual, management is only interested in numbers so they can make their bonuses. BA bonuses are no incentive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The acquisition, whether anyone wants to admit it or not, changed the tone of this company for the worse. Minority customers needs are not as important as their typical customer. Pay attention to all of your customers and design kits/promotions with more than just caucasian women in mind. You are loosing a lot of business.

    Pros

Great product, great discount, usually a fun atmosphere. Competitive pay. Working with clients to help them become THEIR best self is a rewarding experience. Great bonus structure for management. Great PRODUCT education and training. You get pay increases once a year (though very minimal and is based on an unfair grading process, where NO ONE is perfect, but hey, at least there are minimal increases).

    Cons

Things changed when Leslie left, and not for the better, despite the promise that that would never happen. Promotions are difficult unless you're a "favorite" with management. HORRIBLE upper management, district managers are basically unavailable and hardly visit boutiques. Very little training for management, and little training in general besides product training. No work-life balance, you're life is expected to be bare minerals. Little incentives as far as benefits for part-timers. Gratis (which helps to sell product) used to be much better/ more frequent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A better more organized training process for managers (Including District Managers). We promote the girlfriend experience to our clients, this needs to move into the employee teams, starting with a better work-life balance, and promoting college/university EDUCATION to team members, especially management degrees that help advance the business. Offer more incentives for part-timers, insurance was taken away, why not offer them higher bonuses or sick days as a replacement (Especially to key holders that are held to the same standards as the rest of the management team). Develop a real growth process, not one that promotes those that are favorited by the manager and district manager, but a real ladder system where every hard, productive worker gets the same FAIR chance at moving up.

I worked at Bare Escentuals part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The atmosphere isnt as cut throat or competitive because they don't have a commission system in place. The products also are genuinely very healthy for your skin. The mission of the brand is one of the best within the cosmetics buisness. You can easily work your way up, they hire for managerial positions from within usually.

    Cons

If you sell much more than your colleagues, you don't recieve any type of fo coal reward like within other companies that work off of commission sales. This can become quite frustrating and disheartening. They also give a very small raise every year but the base pay is decent especially if you don't have makeup experience going in.

I worked at Bare Escentuals as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Fun, decent pay, good discount, people you work with can be awesome, met a lot of long term friends

    Cons

Management seriously takes advantage of their title. The district manager is never around to see if the boutique is being run ok so in house management gets away with very poor management skills. No benefits for key holders who are supposed to be management, scheduling is a joke.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more involved with boutiques to actually see the day to day and poorly managed boutiques. It's not all about the numbers. Move people up who have put in 5+ years instead of having outside hires, be more strict on your boutique manager because they're probably doing whatever the heck they want and that's why your turnover rate is so high.
