I have been working at Barnes Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Parent company sets tone from top. Very caring. Opportunities exist at other divisions: Aerospace, Industrial, Corporate in CT. Employees are held in high regard. Good 401K and very good retirement for those who have been here awhile.

    Cons

As with a company, there will be politics. However, Corporate does play a heavy hand if needed. Use the 800 line if needed. Employees need to have a clear understanding of how to increase their value and their compensation. Don't trust speaking with those in authority - it comes back to bite you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't ever forgot the Team philosophy. HR should be driving the culture (needs work).

I worked at Barnes Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Some solid, long term businesses like aerospace are good businesses.

    Cons

The other businesses are old, low tech and dying. Top management gets lavish stock options, like the former CEO, Greg Milzcik, cashing out after 10 years with $18 million in options, while the little guys suffer on average wages.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to the overall business and not just to your pay plan

I have been working at Barnes Group full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Used to be a great group of people, including senior management, very capable, and who always delivered. These people are now gone.

    Cons

Associated Spring Raymond's last President, now let go, instilled a culture of fear in the organization. Very belligerent, sometimes threatening and often unprofessional even in public, he caused, or forced many of his employees to leave. Morale was at an all-time low. His recent departure will definitely change this company for the best.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in a real leader, with the values that have made Barnes Group successful over the last 160 years.

    Pros

Many opportunities to advance and gain valuable experience if you are willing to relocate. Great cash bonus opportunities based on annual business performance. Always new customer or engineering developments to keep work interesting.

    Cons

Recent growing pains have lead to poor business decisions and decreased morale. Growing pains have also caused some animosity between team members which makes project work difficult.
