    Pros

Great company with opportunities for growth & development. Focused on being the best with great comp

    Cons

Stock based compensation is tricky when your share price is linked somewhat to a commodity - been volatile over the years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The organization has room to be leaner or more connected.

    Pros

The pay is good, the benefits are decent. If you're Canadian, the growth potential appears limitless.

    Cons

The mining culture and the Canadian culture are not always in sync. What works in Canada does not always work in other locations around the globe.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more globally aware. A requirement for being promoted beyond an analyst should be at least a six-month assignment in another country.

    Pros

Barrick Gold is genuinely dedicated to being the world's best gold producer, has an excellent safety and environmental responsibility culture, contributes to the communities it operates in, and boasts some of the world's largest and most exciting gold mining and processing facilities

    Cons

The company is currently undergoing major restructuring and cost-reduction efforts due to the supressed metals price environment, however these all appear to be positive efforts that will pay dividends once implemented; at some operations, mid-level management is bloated, dysfunctional and very discouraging to workers at the ground level

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In some areas, there appears to be a blatant lack of accountability towards mid-level management, coupled with redundant positions in the org. structure, which can be very disheartening for otherwise energetic, bright and passionate entry-level technical staff whose ambitions are brought to a standstill

Current Employee - Underground Geologist in Elko, NV

    Pros

Good work environment, great safety values, lots of training opportunities, and very diverse in-company work opportunities for career enrichment.

    Cons

Gold price is the make or break (not really much the company can do to control this...). Otherwise, you get the issues that come with a large corporation such as bureaucratic systems and complicated avenues to get work down that would be simpler at a smaller company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cross departmental communication can be an issue; clear and concise understanding of policies and procedures hard to come by... sometimes have to talk to several people before you get a clear answer.
