I have been working at Barrick Gold

    Pros

Good benefits and safe company in a dangerous industry. The employees are great to work with and create a great team environment.

    Cons

Driving to the various mine sites throughout the area can take a long time. Housing and rent can be expensive living in some of the areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to keep the health benefits as good as possible.

I worked at Barrick Gold as an intern

    Pros

Great people in Operations, Tech Services, Maintenance, awesome pay for interns, and free housing. Truly a wonderful learning opportunity; I was able to spend time learning from every department on site.

The focus on safety may seem constraining at first, but "Everyone going home safe and healthy every day" is worth it.

    Cons

The only con's I can think of would be the early wakeup time since I'm not a morning person, but the pay and opportunities to learn and grow outweigh that by miles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look within for areas of improvement. Current employees are knowledgeable.

I worked at Barrick Gold full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great people
    Great location
    Great compensation
    Really good benefits

    Cons

Glass ceiling - no room for advancement
No succession planning even though HR claims there is one in place - always hire externally rather than promoting from within
3 reorgs within the last 2 years which has caused low, non-existent morale
Staff looking for severance packages rather than wanting to stay
Too many directors - all the reorgs focuses on the workers rather than the upper levels which is where the fat is

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Barrick used to be a company you were proud to work for but no longer. All these reorgs are forcing people to leave or not want to stay. Also, lack of succession planning, hiring from within and room for advancement is another major problem Barrick needs to fix
Company is too top heavy. Barrick has more directors and positions above directors than most companies.
