I have been working at Barry Callebaut

    Pros

They have a growing business in the Americas, so there are always new things happening.
Relative high personnel turnover in the Chicago HQ - that's a negative, but opens up possibilities for growth for people that stay.
There is a small management team in Chicago, so easy to interact with senior management

    Cons

Lots of processes dependent on global HQ in Belgium
Management is very busy & more focused on growth of the business then their people - need to be self start to be successful here.

    Advice to Management

More focus on mentoring and building skills in your people.

    Pros

Free chocolates and samples from the kitchen every so often. There's no lack of food.

    Cons

The department I am in does a horrible job at succession planning and career development. The department is run like a monarchy which is funny because majority of the people working there are young adults. To top that off, HR does nothing to set things right when employees provide feedback about being treated unfairly or verbally abused at work.

    Advice to Management

This is a great and fast growing company. And having the right people is key. But HR can do better in hiring the right people. They need to listen to the employees, not just the managers but take everyone's words seriously and sincerely.

    Pros

Local Managers are very good at the technical end of the business. HR is approachable and try to do their best by the floor level. Love smelling chocolate every day!

    Cons

Corporate office makes things very difficult for the local teams. They have little to no understanding of actually working in a facility to expect us to jump through hoops with little resources.

    Advice to Management

Get out and spend time with us working on the line.
