Pros
Great benefits.
Pay matches competition.
Privately owned local chain, so a portion of the clientale is loyal to it.
Raises are fair (and you get raises!)
Cons
It's retail.
Stores have a habit of hanging onto bad/ineffective employees for far too long.
Raises are across the board regardless of job performance (could be good or bad depending on how you look at it).
Advice to Senior Management
Initiate mandatory training in all departments for every non-Pharmacy employee.
Less corporate office meetings for lower management.
Overall, great job!
Pros
The only pros would be good benefits.
Cons
No sick time, and you get in trouble if you call in sick.
No one communicates and theres never appreciation for employees shown.
No raises and when there are, everyone gets them, they're never based on successes with the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Upper management needs to learn how to show appreciation and make sure they don't take advantage of not having to keep record of hours worked. Upper management taking 2 hour lunches is ridiculous and then not giving hourly managers a lunch is a joke. And punishing people by cutting hours or sending them to other stores is a horrible way to treat people. Learn to communicate so people know when they're doing things wrong instead of ignoring them and expecting them to read your mind! Grow up and learn how to treat people. This company was better with the last George Bartell, the new one doesn't know how to treat people and won't even talk to anyone when he does come in the store!
Pros
i love my schedule, and how my boss lets me know exactly what to do before i get to go home!!
Cons
they dont give out raises since i started, my coworkers get away with too much. no paid sick time, and they get mad when you are sick.
Advice to Senior Management
give us sick time! management calls in sick all the time but when we do we get in trouble and they want to change our hours
Pros
Employee discount.
Met some very kind,helpful co-workers
Cons
Low pay rate
Schedule consists of evening late hours (10pm), and many weekends- not family friendly.
Too many managers on few low end employees.
No basic training for new employees
Cashiers/clerks required to do housekeeping chores (cleaning bathrooms, moping floors, removing garbage from the store) something that was not mentioned on the job description.
Working conditions at the specific store I worked small break room which is also where the the lockers are has no window, no running water /sink.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay your employees better
Improve conditions in the break room
Hire an housekeeper
Include all job requirements on your job description
Try to alternate schedule so employees would not have to work every weekend, or too many late evenings in a row.
Have a training program for a new employee.
Pros
They offer a good store discount.
Cons
They give you a low hourly wage.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay better.
Pros
Very 70's corporate office with many middle-aged and near retirees as staff. I considered this a good thing; many have worked there for over ten years, quite a few have worked there over 25 years! Great lunch room/break room, everyone is friendly, benefits are good.
Cons
Salaries are outdated. Store cashiers (who are unionized) make several dollars more per hour than some staff accountants! In keeping with the 1970's theme, everything is paper, paper, paper. Transfers between stores and many accounting forms and invoices are actually handwritten in triplicate! They've got a huge accounting department pounding out numbers on ten-key adding machines all day; work that could be done by, say, ONE well programmed computer. Interesting, to say the least...
Advice to Senior Management
It's 2011. While some of the practices made me laugh, I have to say that George Bartell is a nice man, and I think he cares about his company, his employees, and his family's legacy. While the salary was less than I was used to making, I enjoyed the overall workplace environment.
Pros
Al.ot of great people work there
Cons
Small minded run company. Poor pay and benefits. Alot of customer abuse allowed towards employees. Alot of total indifference towards employees, " Mystery Shoppers" around to always make sure, employees act "happy" and kill themselves for customers even though...tons of other duties are expected from employees.
Advice to Senior Management
George Bartell just sell the company and do something that your heart is in. Very obvious to most employees..that you lack compassion towards your employees..and that it is all about making money.
Pros
The co-workers for the most part are great this include the front part of the store They know my name
Cons
The float staff is never knowledge for their job, each pharmacy is ran different. Staff at stores warehouse mainoffice are
Advice to Senior Management
People at main office need to work as cashier/Pharmacy Asst in the bustiest stores in the south for 1 month
Pros
working in a small neighborhood family atmosphere
Cons
small company, so lots of micronamaging

Pros
The coworkers are top notch, usually. They truly seek friendly people to staff their stores. There is room for adavancement, if you're lucky to have a store manager that likes you enough to go to bat for you, and they paid me to take their Pharmacy Technician program and becomed licensed.
Cons
It's what YOU make of it, the benefits are horrible, there is no profit sharing or true retirement plan, unless you're a pharmacist, and then George Bartell will allow you to invest in his real estate holdings and such.....very very old school company with policies that match. Employee reviews come once a year and so do the tiny raises.....if at all.
Advice to Senior Management
Sell to CVS and get it over with....you're not putting what you should be into your employees benefits packages or investing in new technology....let someone else take the stores to the level of profitability they could be at.
