I have been working at Baruch College part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Friendly and easy going staff that makes for a good work environment (for the most part); computer systems and programs used within the offices are easy to learn and use. Flexible hours within a set amount of hours for the fiscal year.

    Cons

Not very organized; takes a while to get a response from department to department. Not enough hours or a high enough salary for college assistants considering the amount of work they do for their departments. Unlike other places where hard work pays off in professional advancement, at Baruch the harder you work does not reflect in how you are paid or how well treated you are by management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees based on their work load and job responsibilities - people doing less should not be making the same or more than someone who does more than them. If number of years is a factor then give people who more years, more things to do.

  3.

Great group of people, but one director was very closed minded toward improvements for students.

I worked at Baruch College part-time for less than a year

    Pros

I worked with many motivated staff members and student volunteers eager to provide services for the student population. We created events for students to participate in at the commuter school and we had ideas to engage the student population.

    Cons

Baruch is part of a large university system, so changes take a long time to be implemented. One person can block progress due to the chain of command.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be open to updates and improvements from staff. Allow staff members to create events without micromanaging.

I have been working at Baruch College full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

As a public institution, we only have scarce resources and that means for just about everything, from funding for research to salary. We have a strong union, good faculty solidarity, high motivation among faculty and among students.

    Cons

The growth of administrators whose relation to faculty is "what have you done for me lately?" and adversial. Frozen salary due to no contract. Heavy teaching load

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

See faculty as colleagues, co-workers and not adversaries. See students as your priority and not rate of graduation, enrollment numbers.

I have been working at Baruch College full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The multi-diversity and learning experience and you have all holidays and time off. 27 annual days, 17 holidays, and education to expand career.

    Cons

Compensation for high performers is null. Some leadership is power distant and lay back.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensation for high performers as many have not received a raise in salary for more than 8 years. Follow a strategic initiative for workers to unite as one team for the betterment of the students

Great experience to build up your resume and develop essential job transferable skills that would be valuable for any career.

    Cons

Limited amount of hours you can work, a lot of competition to get into the program, hard work for college students who have to balance academics, internships, and life
