I have been working at Bashas' full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There's always something to do. Your on your feet and busy all day. It's easy to get into a groove and your bound to make a few new friends.

    Cons

There's so much more work that needs to be done then the payroll allows for. As the Department Manager you're the one who needs to make up the difference which often means working overtime, off the clock. The staff size is so small there's not enough body's to cover a vacation, so you'll end up working through them.

    Pros

Long standing reputation of charity in Arizona. Family owned and operated. Smaller structure for upper management makes them approachable.

    Cons

The pay was reduced when we had a bankruptcy. Store managers lost up to 25% of their pay. We still have not been restored to salary from 5 years ago and we have no incentive programs.

I have been working at Bashas'

    Pros

The local customers and most of your fellow employees.

    Cons

Lack of hours! No future to make a decent salary for years if ever.....due to the lack of hours you can get and the work contract new cashiers start at. Old contract cashier's make about twice as much. You're considered worthless, or a dime a dozen by the company. You pay the fines if you are set up by the ABC board for an illegal alcohol or tobacco or cold medicine sale. You get fired for 3 mistakes doing a WIC transaction. You get replaced if you're not "fast" enough. (you're always consider not adequate -but barely acceptable) mind games** There's a chart in the break room to show everyone who's checking groceries their speed and it's basically used to threat motivate you. Some management skills! Using a whip and a chair is the style here to motivate everyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sell the corporation to a better supermarket chain who will do better.

    Cons

    Sick time policy was horrible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is important to really understand how different departments really operate, from the bottom to the top and give praise to those employees that keep the store running every day.
