Pros
Very excelent benifits, and highly competitive pay. Time off is fexiable, and promotions mainly from within
Cons
Store management is often more concerned with making numbers look good to their bosses over worrying about employee happiness. Those hourly employees that should be fired often are not, as high turnover at a store looks bad to the management. This hurts company moral as more hourly employees then stop caring about thier job.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more willing to fire those that clearly dont want to work, and better reward those that do well at the job.
Pros
Friendly co workers, and good to start somewhere but not a place you want to work forever.
Cons
Horrible management at all ends. They hired guys who don't know anything to management such as managers I dealt with working in the meat department. Cut in pay, benefits, and no hours (full time is 32 hours!). Doing multi tasking work and not being appreciate from all the work effort what employee do.
Advice to Senior Management
Management don't know anything to run a business.
Pros
All members were friendly and would help you when you asked. Customers were happy when you give them what they wanted and if it was in stock. Have to have the product to make the sales.
Cons
Store director was awful! Upper management are so arrogant and having a air about them when they walked the stores. Customers would comment about management. Saying they better change their ways . It's the customers that come first, not upper arrogant management. Eddie needs to fire all the upper managers that took his company down. Give what the customers want. Lower prices.Department managers should not have to work 6 days 10 to 12 hour a day to make labor. That is abusing your management team.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't be so aggogant and let store directors abuse their management team. Have one on one with department managers and ask how they are being treated from the director. Show the managers that threates and abuse will not be tollerated. Look at why Bashas needs so many department managers and why are good department managers quitting?
Pros
My co-workers are really nice.
Cons
Breaks: Little to none, only a bathroom break as needed, but NEVER a lunch break. I'm lucky if I get 1 15 minute break in an 8 hour shift but that doesn't happen very often. Pay for new employees is pitiful!!! MINIMUM WAGE even with experience.
Pros
Gain customer service skills - definately build a thick skin dealing with people.
Cons
long hours, on your feet, short breaks, sometimes hierarchy in the store - depending on what store, low pay. Its a hard job, deal with people all day.
Advice to Senior Management
Re-Format everything to actually care for your employees
Pros
Back in 2005 it was a wonderful place to work and grow. Competitive wages, benefits and paid time off.
Cons
Benefits cut, pay cuts, senior level management is not in touch with retail aspects and do not "permit" the managers to make hiring/scheduling decisions which directly affect the personal store's revenues.
Advice to Senior Management
Cut your losses and keep the dreams alive!
Pros
good pay awesome environment great customer service
Cons
not enough hours hours based on closeness to managment
Advice to Senior Management
have a balance between hours and salary
Pros
Some of the best reasons to work at bashas are the people and the people you work with, other then the management. Alot of the time the managements are real...well horrible. But, the people are really nice and everyone who talks to you usually does so in a polite manner.
Cons
There are managers at my bashas that yell at you just to yell at you. They also tell you to do one thing, then tell you you're doing it wrong even though you're doing it exactly like you were told to. The management is just horrible to put it lightly.
Advice to Senior Management
Advice? I'd tell them to start hiring more competent managers.
Pros
You are supporting a local company that (presumably) gives back to your community. You will have the opportunity to meet a diverse group of people of all ages and ethnicity. You should be able to find a schedule that works around your Real Life responsibilities. One of the very few non union grocers, this could also be a downside depending on who you asked. If you have any previous retail experience you should be able to get a job starting 10 - 12 dollars an hour for "non-carryout/bagger" positions. Good Benefits packages. Time and a half on holidays including paid holidays.
Cons
The current pay structure is a little out of whack. Employees who started before 2005 are on a different payscale than current new hires. Only one cost of living raise in the last few years (25 cents). In store prices higher than other grocery stores. Weak member discount (5% off grocery excluding liquor tobacco). Hours for some have been hard to come by due to "economic conditions" (sept. 08).
Advice to Senior Management
Pay raises. Return to equal pay scale for all employees
