    Pros

    Fun people to work with. HUGE Brand Recognition....everyone you know or talk to has a Bass Pro story. Awesome discount on purchases in the store.

    Cons

    The discount is the only financial bennie other than your pay and health insurance. For years the company was mostly run by HR...may have changed by now. If you love NASCAR....you'll love Bass Pro....that's where your raise and bonus are spent. Hard to give employees raises and bonuses when the dumps all that money on Tony Stewart and his team. Incredible turnover...they have had SIX IT VPs in 10 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    People don't want to work for you just because you're Bass Pro. Getting to say "HEY, I work for Bass Pro" doesn't put food on the table....Share the wealth folks.

    Pros

    I enjoyed the atmosphere at Bass. The “outdoors inside” really made it feel nice while working. Most of the customers are pleasant to help and deal with. There is always the customer that is never satisfied but in general the customers that visit Bass Pro are there for the experience and to shop so they are pretty happy.

    Cons

    This is where the company lacks – overall treatment of its employees. Bass Pro could be sooo much better if they cultivated a family type environment with its people. Sadly, everything seems to be bottom line driven. There’s nothing wrong with trying to make the most money but it can be done with class.

    It is a great resume builder because people love the brand. You will get great experience too because they really throw you into the fire.

    Cons

    No room to advance. Pay is terrible and way below industry standard. Upper management will make you do the job of multiple people with no extra compensation. You don't feel appreciated or valued either. Terrible raises. No bonuses. Management makes you feel replaceable

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    If employees felt valued, they might stick around longer. We aren't lucky to work there just because it's "BASS PRO"

    I work at the HQ so it's nice seeing the man in charge and the day to day operations, lots of room to grow.

    Cons

    If you're not commission plan on making less than average.

    Overstocked shelves can be dangerous.
    Packing and shipment strategies can be wasteful and harmful to the environment.
    You always feel like you are being watched.
    Pushing credit cards is uncomfortable.

    More frequent training, give those who work harder and get more star cards higher pay raises after yearly review.

    good discount
    most customers are happy to be there
    there are some good associates

    Cons

    Upper management uses bullying tactics to get their way
    there is a lot of favoritism with upper management
    there are broken promises all the time
    a lot of social media censorship
    high school drama with a lot of associates

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    A repair shop and a retail store are two different worlds so do not try to bring the boat shop under the General Sales Manager's authority cause it is not going to be profitable with a retail state of mind. People are working on jobs that are already given to them in the shop, so when you walk through and get the itch to have something moved, stopping all work in order to do that task drastically reduces productivity. The service manager knows how to run a repair shop so let him/her run it without you constantly trying to override his/her authority. Spying on employees with the cameras in your office only makes them resent you and creates distrust and negative energy. Nobody(other than the people who have no other options) is going to be a long term associate with a 40 cent yearly raise. Good certified technicians are hard to come by so treat them with respect cause they will always have other jobs waiting for them elsewhere. People have a life outside of Bass Pro.

    Schedule flexibility, atmosphere, and friendly supervisors.

    Cons

    Benefits and pay. $8.00 an hour starting for Corporate customer service reps. Co-worker has worked for the company since 1982 and only makes $12.50 an hour.

    Management, Compensation, not allowing associates to use discounts they are rightfully eligible for

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Don't limit pro-deals to certain departments when the manufacturers say that ANY associate in a retail store is eligible to pro-deal their product. Back up your associates when they say something to a customer instead of rolling over like a dog. It makes associates look bad when we say what management tells us to say, then they override it. Don't under-staff during times when you know it will be busy (such as Fall Hunting Classic). What's more important, your bonus or actually having the respect of your associates? Don't get mad at someone for not doing another department's job; we were barely paid enough to put up with what we had to do to begin with.
