I have been working at Bass Pro Shops part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employee discounts, pro-deals, colleagues, customers with same interest, growth potential

    Cons

low pay, no bonuses, lack of company culture

    Advice to Management

Implement more "customer first" attitude to the employees. An exceptional customer service is what sells, and creates returning customers.

I worked at Bass Pro Shops full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The entire staff is friendly and willing to have a good conversation to let the slow times pass. Its the only job in the store that has a commission so you would make more money than the cashiers, sales people, etc. You aren't stuck in one area, you get to walk around the whole store and meet people.

    Cons

If you do no like approaching random people, this job is not for you. The purpose is to sell the stores credit card, not everyone will be approved and some will even get mad at you for their disapproval. Lots of walking, on your feet the whole day. It can be very slow at times and also very fast paced where you might be doing multiple applications in different areas of the store.

    Advice to Management

Train sales people to pitch the credit card, its impossible for one person to cover every person in the store.

I have been working at Bass Pro Shops part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great team, upbeat staff, great customers, interesting place to work.

    Cons

Reduced hours for the time being with cutbacks, hoping to get increased hours going into fall, part time positions in lieu of full-time is tough. Otherwise it's a great place to work.

    Advice to Management

Keep great staff by offering them full-time positions. It's difficult to sustain a lifestyle on less than 30 hours per week, especially when workers love their job. It costs more to retrain new people than to keep the staff you have.

    Pros

Incredible culture. Company really cares about its people. Work life balance is important to them. This is all difficult to find in any company these days let alone retail. People feel honored to work here.

    Cons

Not a lot of policies and procedures in place, lacking technical systems that would make work easier. However, they have the desire to implement and are working toward that end. They pay well but benefits are not always competitive.

    Pros

Friendly staff, interesting products. Managers were easy to work with and understanding of personal situations. Location was good as well.

    Cons

Retail is retail. Customers were the main drawback. The dead periods were extremely boring and the hours could be long at times.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to balance the schedule more effectively.

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Bass Pro Shops full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Employees, customer service, great products

    Cons

Recent cuts do not go along with company vision, a lot of valuable employees were let go, to give double/triple work to those remaining, with lesser salaries. But new stores continue to open. The decision to make the numbers look good on paper for going public has superseded previous values.

    Advice to Management

General Manager worried about himself, doesn't have a passion for the outdoors or employees. More attention needs to be made to current stores.
