Pros
They offered good sales techniques. Their products are reasonably priced.
Cons
It's retail, so you have to work long hours. On some days, you have to work 11 hours.
Advice to Senior Management
There is poor communication between the corporate and the individul store.
Pros
if you like color and design it is a good creative outlet and bassett furniture is a well established company.
Cons
it is retail, you have to work weekends and most holidays
they have almost completely curtailed their advertising campaign with the exception of email and mailers to existing customers
Advice to Senior Management
bring customers in the door if you want to make sales. have quality products at decent prices and follow up with good customer service
Pros
Good discount, only after 6 months.
Cons
Commissioned cut throat watch your back and sales at all times.
Advice to Senior Management
Look carefully on how each Store Manager leads their team.
Pros
good training
good people
not competing for your clients
able to work independenty as well as part of the team
management works with you to make the client happy
Cons
Well...after all..... it is a retail schedule!!!!
management can and does change frequently
some store managers are better at selling than managing...but others are great
Advice to Senior Management
You should rename the Idea Coordinator position Design Consultant. That is what they do and it is much clearer to the client.
Pros
They offered nice products, and a comfortable shopping enviroment. Custom options cave customers the option to upgade to good quality features.
Cons
They had very slow traffic for the amount of staff, which made it very difficult to make a living and created unfriendly tension between co-workers. Employees expected to reimburse company for errors on furniture orders. Sales people aka "design consultants" usually had no design background. The "design manager" at my location had no formal design education.
Advice to Senior Management
Trim the dead weight. Tighten up your crew. Staff lighter numbers till traffic improves. Reward your best closers by allowing them to make a living. Moralle will improve when employees know their bills are paid. You will atract better recruits when prospects understand the income potential is better with your company than brand X.
Pros
I loved my job at this company. The product is great. The work is hard and there is always something new to learn. But that is what's good about it. There is healthy/fun competition and clear cut goals. The environment makes for strong employee bonds and excellent teamwork.
Cons
As it is retail, you need to accept that the store is open 7 days a week and most holidays are big event days which require a full staff. Plan on skipping some barbecues and birthday parties because you will be working. If you're okay with this, then you'll be fine working as a Manager at Bassett.
Advice to Senior Management
In my long work history, my 5 years at Bassett were the most rewarding, both personally and professionally. I loved my time there. The skills I learned will be beneficial to me throughout the rest of my working life.
Pros
Everyone needs a paycheck, and Bassett offers decent benefits. The people that you work with (aside from upper level management) are fantastic and you will learn a great deal about your people skills. Also, the discounts you receive on furniture could make it worth it if you have any intention on furnishing your home. The furniture is actually of a pretty good quality (with the exception of their hardwoods and recliners.) Overall it's a learning experience.
Cons
Management is incompetent. They are incredibly demanding, micromanaging and don't seem to care about their employees. They demand much more than they should and get angry when you don't want to participate.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management needs to actually listen to their lower level employees and incorporate the feed back that they receive into their future business plans. The furniture is over priced and the time it takes for them to deliver their furniture, from the time of the order, is disappointing at best.
