I worked at Basware full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Was the most enjoyable professional employ I have held to date; I had significant autonomy to utilize and leverage my skills and intellect to help build and develop the business and client relationships. The people are fun and energetic, and a pleasure to work with. Very flexible and very understanding of work/life balance. You get out of Basware what you invest of yourself, by and large.

    Cons

Career progression is poorly defined at best.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more feedback on the health of the company and define career progression to enable individuals to develop their careers as opposed to simply being employees.

I have been working at Basware full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people, exciting products, exciting time to be in purchase to pay. Seems poised for better things.

    Cons

Far lower than average base salaries. Due to HR being in Finland they seem resistant to researching the reality on the ground.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to glassdoor.com and other similar average salary sites. Also don't hamstring your sales leaders who should not be given incentives to delay deals. Caps and minimums on commission do this.

I have been working at Basware

    Pros

One of the best companies if you want to work in medium size company in Finland. Makes software that is more competitive than for example Tieto and other large companies.

    Cons

Not so dynamic environment that in some new companies. Basware is more a large company than a small one. You have to deal with the India option.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

India office would be good to help making software to Asian markets. India is not good for cheap software: cheap software is crap.

I have been working at Basware full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice about Basware is that there is a lot of freedom. One of the core values is "Act with courage". I see that the organisation needs people acting with courage. Personally I feel this is appreciated as long as it is good/constructive feedback with the goal to make the company better.
There are quite some hierarchical layers, but if i look to my own work I can easily bypass them (keep them in the loop) without problems.
Basware is a financially solid company.

    Cons

There is a heavy middle management layer. Managers who are there because they where good at what they where doing but not necessarily being good at management. Personal development and investing in people is not the highest topic on the agenda which makes it difficult for the company to make the next step.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in people more. Train people in doing their work better, more efficient. Setting targets is one thing but also enable it by developing the organisation.

    Pros

Initially I found this company a great place to work. The staff was good and always ready to help its associate. You will get reward for your work.

    Cons

I worked at Basware full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Some really knowledgeable colleagues with whom it really was a pleasure to work with. They were passionate and willing to exchange ideas.

    Cons

The culture was problematic. The team management wanted to distance themselves from the team so much that it crippled the progress. This also played against the team in relation to working with other teams.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Could have easily been a really interesting position for a long time, but we were quite blatantly told we were not "up for the job" (the team), which begs the question why would you then set up a team you weren't satisfied with? (Somehow the team was able to dig themselves out of an earlier hole set up by unrealistic schedules, though)
