    Pros

Perks with discounted merchandise, dynamic retail landscape to keep employees busy, strong expertise in the footwear industry, strong heritage with 120 years of rich history

    Cons

Poor management with personnels being promoted based on favouritism instead of results. Indecisive working style among the top management. Employees are lowly paid. Unnecessary politics. Management has no direction or strategy on how business can be improved. Backward technology. Not progressive to keep up with the changing times.

    Advice to Management

Look into the reasons with high turnover of manpower. It should signal issues that management should solve before moving on with formulating strategies.

    Pros

    - Employees are dedicated, passionate & knowledgeable

    Cons

    - Top management is clueless & lacks credibility vis a vis employees
    - To make up for lack of knowledge, skill, experience & vision, top management hires external talent who is not told at the time of hiring about the level of losses & real state of disaster the firm is in. After joining, they discover the real situation of the firm & quickly leave resulting in high turnover & continuous change of directions
    - Top management lies to employees on true state of the company by lavish claims on company ; illusions only last for so long
    - Company has already left major markets (North America) & is being severely beaten by competition across Europe (continuous store closures resulting in minor presence). A few remaining operations with chance of success in Asia and Latin America, but drastic action required before it is too late

    Advice to Management

    - Define a direction and stick to it ; stop the knee jerking
    - Be honest with staff & let them know the true extent of the difficult situation the firm is in ; only then will staff grant top management any form of credibility & be willing to join in efforts to save what's left of the company

    Pros

Good hardworking dedicated employees all trying to support a dying business
Some good managers stifled by lack of direction
    Top management paid too much

    Cons

    No leadership in the management
No firm direction, since Tomas Bata passed away, the son Tom Bata, current chairman, has no vision, no personnel management skills and gives weak direction
Mid-level management paid too little, no career planning

    Advice to Management

Get some direction and stick to it.
Too much talk talk and not enough action and do do
Let Tom Bata retire and disappear, let Rino Rizzo (former excellent CEO) assist Jack Clemons (current good CEO) in turning the fortunes of this company around without interference
Don't throw away the culture of the BSO

    Pros

interesting experience to see this 120 year old, still same family-owned company struggling in todays fast moving and changing business environment. there will be hardly any other opportunity among global companies of this size (60 countries; 2,5 billion USD) to eye-witness management lacking substantially structure and professionalism

    Cons

it is a hard to to see such an (former) amazing company go out the window and saying good-bye to one qualified colleague after the other. either leaving themselves or being driven out by the network of long-term "managers" within. to bare witness to the (non-)action of the remaining executives is very difficult. you can only survive if you cover up any negative issues. it is a sacrilege to speak out mismanagement

    Advice to Management

the management itself is the problem. including the very very top-management. a change of the whole structure and most of persons involved would be necessary. and this is the major challenge for the chairman (representing the third generation of owners): parasites are hard to come by. one would risk killing the host, too. but there is no alternative. hopefully the fourth generation has the guts. europe is already lost to the competition. the same fate seems very likely in asia. south america never gained strength. solely africa lacks competition
