    Ever Evolving

Hourly Worker (Current Employee) Lewiston, ME

ProsBates is a good environment to work in with good benefits and decent pay if you have been there a number of years.

ConsStarting pay for non salaried employees is low making it difficult to hire full time employees with desired qualifications.

Advice to Senior ManagementSet the tone and be a good example of the work ethic you expect from others. We have a new president who is a fantastic communicator/leader to all departments of this liberal arts college and is leading us on a good path.

The atmosphere at Bates College is one of positive personal achievement.

Assistant Field Hockey and Basketball Coach (Current Employee) Lewiston, ME

ProsThere are many resources and connections at Bates College if one wants or needs to use them. The campus feels friendly and welcoming the moment you step on its grounds, and the staff from the grounds keepers to the professors exude the same...

ConsOne of the down sides of working at Bates College is finding housing on or near the campus. Finding full-time employment can be difficult as well for more recent college graduates.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe recruiting formula seems to be a bit antiquated, and possibly should be revisited. There may be missed opportunity in obtaining some outstanding students and athletes.

    Great Experience

    Intern (Current Employee) Lewiston, ME

ProsWorking as a student intern at the office of intercultural education was such a great experience and provided insight on the politics of race and culture on the entire campus

ConsI think it is pretty ridiculous that they still haven't found a well-qualified director for the Multicultural (oops now intercultural) center! Get it together, Bates!

Advice to Senior Managementset your priorities straight.

    Great place to work

Associate Director, Development (Former Employee) Lewiston, ME

ProsBates has a terrific wellness program that provides free head/neck massages to employees a few times a year, and also provides easy access to CSAs in both the summer and the winter (with rebates for early subscribers).

ConsFinding parking can be a challenge, and with no parking garage(s), you're guaranteed to do a lot of snow removal off your car in the winter.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the great work.
