I have been working at Bath & Body Works part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Friendly people, great culture and good incentives when holiday comes around. I love my job, but I understand that it's retail and there are things that a lot of people don't like about it. It's a high energy environment that is sales and customer driven. It can be 100% what you make it.

    Cons

There isn't a large amount of growth opportunity when starting out as a sales associate. As with most places, you have to know the right people and work extremely hard to move forward. You don't get holidays off if we're open, most of the time, but that's just a simple fact of working in retail.

I worked at Bath & Body Works part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Room for growth: Upper management will help you move up if you express interest (there are also temporary management positions during peak times) I started as a sales associate.. After 1 year I was promoted to a seasonal sales lead which turned into a permanent position

Lots of gratis: Who doesn't love free stuff!? Also always getting to try the new products first!

Friendly co-workers (mostly): Co-workers become your "second family" especially during holiday & the grueling floor sets

Fun atmosphere: There's always something new & exciting going on! Holiday is an especially magical time at bbw

Great product & customers: Customers love the products... They really do sell themselves! You occasionally get a disgruntled customer but that's just retail... & bbw really backs you up with the 100% guarantee

    Cons

    Same with most retail...

Long hours... Floor sets keep you there well into the night & usually the early hours of the morning

Some people in management positions really shouldn't be in management but this goes unnoticed due to lack of store visits & knowledge of what's really going on by the dsm

Can be stressful at times especially during holiday when everyone is shopping for last minute presents (but overall holiday is a fun time)

Products get discontinued all the time & customers get upset because "they finally found something they liked"

Sometimes floor sets are scheduled too close together.. It's great to keep the store looking fresh.. But it can confuse the customer when it changes so frequently

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dsm should visit stores more often to really understand what's going on in the store. I worked at bbw for about 2.5 years and only saw the dsm once.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More involvement from corporate would be nice. A lot of associates are in college and want to move up.

    Pros

Leadership was awesome. Generally the people there are very friendly. The interview process was easy and they train you extremely well. Top employees can get promoted very easily, even with little or no retail experience coming in.

    Cons

Call-ins are horrible. Usually you don't know if you will be working or not until an hour before you're scheduled to go in. It made planning ahead difficult.

I worked at Bath & Body Works part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you are a sales associate, then flexibility with your hours is a big benefit. Employee discounts are nice as well. The store I worked at had great morale which keeps employees motivated, productive, and happy.

    Cons

Working nights and weekends, no benefit packages for part-time associates, store doesn't always get what customers are asking for.
