I have been working at Bauman College

    Pros

    Operations

Bauman College is a small group of dedicated, resourceful, driven employees. The college runs on entrepreneurial spirit and collaboration. A balance exists between best practices and new methodologies.

    Personnel

Conflict resolution is part of the Bauman way of life. If an employee has an issue, that employee is encouraged to provide feedback to his or her manager and senior management if relevant. There is an open dialogue between departments and all levels of staff.

Fun and sense of community are part of the organization's culture. Upcoming events are mentioned to one another throughout each week. One never feels like a silo.

All locations truly work together, from Sonoma County to Boulder, Colorado. We communicate on IM, in email, on the phone, and in person. We're a communicative bunch.

    Programs

The Nutrition Consultant program speaks for itself in communities across the globe. I've heard from local graduates and read about graduates doing work overseas. Graduates from the program are certified, given job referral resources, and are encouraged to follow their individual path. Some certified Nutrition Consultants from Bauman College work for hospitals, government affiliated health organizations, community programs, or have their own practice. The Natural Chef program give cooking enthusiasts exposure to a science-based nutrition model. Graduates support one another after the program has ended. Some graduates from this program work for well known technology companies, hospitals, or run their own successful company.

    Cons

It's a small nonprofit which presents the challenge of a small benefits package.

I worked at Bauman College full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

A small staff dedicated to the mission. Upward mobility an option. Company emphasizes sense of community among employees with employee retreats and birthday parties.

    Cons

Upward mobility due to high turn over among multiple departments and employee levels. Pay is not competitive (even among other non-profits in the area). Meetings serve as main route to expedite projects -however, meetings often last multiple hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Limit the gossip and keep things professional, most importantly in front of students and potential new students. Develop communication protocols that expedite meetings and maintain professional communication.

I have been working at Bauman College full-time

    Pros

There are some good people who work there. Some who have a real sense of caring for others.

    Cons

Bauman College lacks a real sense of business acumen when it comes to developing the program as a whole. There is a disconnect between what is good for the student, how to incorporate that into real world business/education practices. It is astonishing to see the lack of "science based" education in a nutrition program at the "college" level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire in people that have real world business experience, from accounting to program directors to HR. There needs to be a cohesive unit where practices and policies do not change on a whim. Flying by the seat of your pants in protocol, hiring practices, and organizational structure will undo any "plans" or "goals" set for the future.
