Great people, but poor staffing choices.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe people who work here are great! It is a very good environment to work in. The energy coming from the others really do resonate and induces one to be much more friendly and outgoing.

ConsThe staffing choices are very poor. Although I work hard and do a very good job, I do not feel any sense of fulfillment in my work. It is very difficult to work your way out of a unhappy position when you start from the bottom, and I feel you have to be sneaky about it.

Great motivation to work at a company that's saving lives, but overall this company is just good.

    Senior Systems Analyst (Current Employee)
    Deerfield, IL

ProsThe company values are exceptional with the goals of helping and saving lives. Compensation and benefits are good.

ConsLife-work balance is discussed and supposedly very important at Baxter, yet not practiced. From what I've experienced, if you work long hours, you are seen as dedicated and more likely to be promoted. Middle management tends to be selected based on promotion as a subject matter expert, and not on the merits that they can manage people and projects. Also, career development based on employee's strengths is not encouraged.

Advice to Senior ManagementLife-work balance should be important. Managers should be hired based on the fact that they can manage people and projects. Movement within the company is not encouraged, staying in one position is encouraged, which is not developing the strengths of employees, which leads to a weaker company.

ConsHFAC is a nightmare and needs to be fixed.

Advice to Senior ManagementHaving people in marketing management positions is dangerous when they do not have sales experience. They tend to make poor decisions.

ProsHave the ability to learn a lot. Open work environment that allows employees to work from home.

ConsQuite political and cliquey, in some departments favoritism over competence is practiced.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on the people who "do" rather than the "favoritism" based on emotion.
