    Pros

    Solid products. Decent marketing support.

    Cons

Mgmt. politics. Squeeze the customer. Make customers depend on them for their chronic disease mgmt. to the point where they manipulate supply and demand of "hard to find/access" life saving medical therapies. Could there be collusion here with other competitors?

    Advice to Management

Be satisfied/content with 85-90% market share, when the impact Baxter has in growing the business is minimal. Stop treating people like animals - your customers and your employees. Everyone can see it. Eventually when you loose your power grip, customers and employees will enjoy watching you fall.

    Pros

I chose to work for Bax because I am close to my family. I could have worked for other companies, but I chose Bax mainly because it is close to my family. Maybe this is the trade off for job dissatisfaction.

    Cons

Maybe it is for the division I work for, it is stressful and has deadlines after deadlines after deadlines to meet.

    Advice to Management

Some middle management s are just too ambitious and wanted to achieve A LOT with little resources. It may work in the short run, but in the long run, it won't work. For the group I work for, over 90% of the staff left in a couple of months.

    Pros

Baxter employees a lot of great individuals, who work had to accomplish a common vision, improve the clinical outcomes of our patient care. Working in the health care industry comes with the knowledge that when you do your job correctly, Patients benefit.

    Cons

The experience of working at Baxter varies by business and group. Some parts of Baxter are working as a well oiled machine, and other parts are full of dysfunction.

    Advice to Management

Employees want to be treated with respect. They don't want to be lied to, or expected to work long hours with little praise of reward.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, some very nice people.

    Cons

As with other large companies, too much bureaucracy at times. Changes are slow as well. Advancement and promotions are largely based on a set formula of what degree you have, how many years you've worked there, etc. without too much regard for performance as long as your performance is acceptable. Good for people who want to cruise through their career but not for people looking to excel and move up the ladder.

    Advice to Management

They need to pay more attention to the "little" people at the bottom of the ladder who are actually doing the work .

    Pros

Baxter offers a wonderful tuition reimbursement benefit. They are a great place to work for college students. In-house training offers a "fast-track" opportunity for those looking to get into the medical field.

    Cons

Constant changes are poorly communicated. Standard operating procedures are revised monthly. Training is inconsistent from employee to employee making required testing problematic. There is a high employee turnover rate. Management does not appear to appreciate subordinates. Opportunity for advancement is very poor.

    Advice to Management

People with good process improvement abilities do not always make good people leaders. Managers need people skills!

    Pros

I had a good experience working in the HR department at Baxter and I might even go back to work in HR if I get an opportunity. The best reason to work for baxter is- it is an established company in a growing field.

    Cons

Not all managers care to sent the right tone and expectations. I had previously worked at Baxter in Round Lake and it was a bad experience. I was hired to work in Drug Delivery and when I went in to report to work on the first day, the manager called the security and had me escorte to work in the Penicilin fill room. This company has a difficult time keeping people working for them as they are not upfront & treuthful with their employees. I have seen employees walk out of there, not to return after working for half a day. One of the worst departments to work in at Baxter is its Credit and Collections department. My boss was the worst that I could have ever had.

    Advice to Management

Managers, should try to treat their employees in a fair and decent manner and understand that the hourly employees are also human beings and need to be treated with some amout of consideration. Remember that just because an employee is a temporary employee does not mean that they are any less human. After all said and done, I will say that my manager in the HR department, where I worked breiefly worked was a very nice person, a great manager and very professional. I will go back to work for him in a heartbeat.

    Pros

Encouragement of good work life balance-many people with children were encouraged to get home timely etc. Family values are very much respected - lots of people with children worked from home on Fridays. Dress is business casual There are numerous manufacturing sites to work with. Lots of work is done in groups. Most people are nice to work with. They encourage an open door policy. The company has different divisions so you have the ability to do different things if you are so inclined. There are a lot of people who have worked at the company for a very long time so they understand the history of the projects and understand the leadership.

    Cons

Heavily matrixed to the detriment of the business, very much the old boy network, its predetermined who will succeed based on who is in. They are very invested in continuing to be best in the market but there is intolerant attitude-there is more concern about who is delivering a message than what is being said. Management is very siloed from the people below them. They do a lot of very special things for the management and provide a lot of light weight lip service to the people below them. Communication is considered to be a valuable commodity and often you don't get the most important information to do your job unless you are on the inside. They are very invested in keeping things as they are but say they want change. IF you espouse ideas which are not consistent with how things have always been done you are labelled someone who is not a team player. tough environment to come into if you are new - transistions are not eased into-they just throw you in. For the most part nice people but the environment supports a lot of negative cliche activity.

    Advice to Management

You need to be genuine about your messages to those below the senior management.

    Pros

Located in Los Angeles; Very close to freeway entrance; plenty of people (1300 employees alone) to work with; young staff

    Cons

young staff; salary is EXPECTED to work overtime (12-16 hrs / day); gotta know people to advance within; VERY VERY VERY fast paced (20-30 lots / month!)

    Advice to Management

SLOW DOWN!! The reason why so many accidents happen is because everyone is REACTIVE and PREVENTATIVE. Everyone is chasing to put out fires all the time

    Pros

Good opportunities for career growth and movement within the company. This could be a good first job for people. Unfortunately, company needs to work on compensation, work/life balance, and how they treat their employees to be able to retain them, and promote employee satisfaction. This is probably why there is a high number of young engineers there; however, most of these engineers leave within a couple of years to companies that treat them better in the above described areas.

    Cons

Expectation here is that work takes priority over all aspects of your life. Continually rotating schedules, e.g. first shift, swing and grave, sometimes weekend work, sometimes on call. It's hard to plan out your personal life with all of this. Salary is not good, and adding the hours you will be working plus personal sacrifices does not help.

    Advice to Management

Don't treat your employees like workhorses. Hire the number employees needed to do the job so everyone isn't over-working to compensate. There should be more than one person who can be a 'go-to' for each system; employees shouldn't feel guilty about being sick, taking vacation, etc. because they know there isn't anybody else who can sufficiently cover for them.
